I'd like somebody to mention that day that MLK tried to give his life in service to others. I'd like for somebody on that day that Martin Luthor King Jr tried to love somebody.
I want you to say that I tried to be right and to walk with them. I want you to be able to say that I did try to feed the hungry. I want you to be able to say that day that I did try in life to clothe the naked.
I want you to be able to say on that day that I visited those who were in prison, and I want you to be able to say that I tried to love and serve humanity.
Say that a drum major. Say I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. Say I was a drum major for righteousness.
And all the shallow things will not matter.
I won't have any money to leave behind, but I just want to leave a committed life behind.
If I can help somebody as I pass along. If I can cheer somebody with a song, if I can show one person they are on the wrong road, then my life will not have been in vain.
Words from a sermon Martin Luther King wrote but hadn't delivered before he was killed. A recording, in his own words, was played at his funeral.
Eat a peach for peace, and sing. Sing a song for Martin Luther King.
Everybody sing, for Martin Luther King
