Plans for the Big Game?

Post by billryan »

We'll be having a small get together at the clubhouse, with more people interested in the food than the game.
Using Goldbelly, I had ten Pisano Pies flown in from Albany, another guy had lobster salad flown in from Maine to make lobster rolls and there will be the usual hot dogs, tacos, dips, snacks, and salads.
Last year, we started with about twenty people but by the end of the game, we were down to a handful. There just isn't a lot of interest in sports in this area. I doubt even a dozen will be there today.
I'm leaning towards KC, but have no money on the game and am really just hoping for a good game and
that politics doesn't rear its ugly head.

No money on it. I tolerated a discussion of coin toss wagering, of all things. Lots of wings and a ton of assorted carbs. Tampa Bay's star wide receiver had some childhood. His father was murdered by his uncle.

Unfortunately, will be shoveling snow. Another 10 inches and it is not quite done yet. If I don’t get at it in the next hour, it will be a block of ice. And the city plow will be by several times leaving ice mounds to clear. I’m not into sports betting, but if I were, I wouldn’t bet against Brady.

BR - Please take the proper precautions and try to avoid making your party a super-spreader event.

Maybe, but can I buy some discipline on Amazon or Ebay. Guess I need a gatekeeper. Works if the Mrs. is looking over my shoulder, but that’s about the only time it does.
Bad enough to have to go up against Brady, but throw in his pal Gronkowsky and it is almost like trying to hit a Royal on your first hand when you get to the casino.
Back in 8 th grade and the first couple of years in high school, I was determined to beat my big tough no neck Polish classmate Sasha Kripakoff in the shotput. . I worked out like a lunatic, studied up on the physics of motion, and even read stuff how the Romans excelled in so many physical sports. Sasha would wuff down a kielbasa sandwhich and go right out to the field. He would beat my best throw by about 6 inches every time. No bragging rights with second place. Poor guy is gone now as are many of my classmates

My freshman year in high school, we used an eight-pound shotput and while my best in competition was under 42 feet, I'd hit 45 feet in practice on occasion.
After the football season of my Sophmore year, I transfer schools and introduce myself to my new track coach.
I tell him how I did last year, and he tells me that would slot me as #3 on the team. I meet a few teammates and one guy is very skeptical that I can hit 45 feet in practice or in a meet. Only then did I discover Nassau County didn't have an eight pound shot so these guys were all talking twelve pound, which I'd only thrown two or three times. First day of practice comes, and I make my first toss and it barely cracks thirty feet. I think I managed to break thirty-six feet that day.
My Teammate George Mercerad was the NY State champion in both Shot and Discus our senior year.
At the State meet, he was rated #7 with a PR just under fifty-nine feet, but tossed sixty two feet in the meet. I loved the discus but was very mediocre at it. In the Spring of my senior year, I got a bad case of senioritis, started missing practices and really slacking off and I left the team after the duel meet season.
George was top-rated in Discus and did a two hundred and two PR in that meet as well. He stopped competing in meets after that to get ready for attending Fort Monmouth, the Prep school for the US Military Academy.
His Dad couldn't have been more than 5'8 but represented Hungry in the 1952 Olympics.

Like to hear these stories. The closest I can come to identifying with the Olympics would be my best friends dad who was an alternate hurdler for Italy in the 1948 Olympics. My other best friend’s son has won many gold medals in swimming in the Special Olympics. I have posted before him. I will never forget the time I cooked outside for 200 Special Olympics kids. That was one of the highlights in my life I will never forget. A couple of these kids could throw a bullet pass with the football like I have never seen but couldn’t really grasp the plays. It is interesting how these kids usually excel in one area to compensate for their disabilities. I will say one more thing These kids are the happiest people on earth.
