vaccinated people may spread the Delta variant as easily as the unvaccinated.

It was reported today that the test positivity rate in Illinois has risen to 4.7%. A month ago it was under 1%. And now we have a governor who has staged a re-election campaign and his main thrust is how successful Illinois has been in fighting Covid and he is taking credit. Let's see if his commercials stop airing for a while until this gets back under control.

Here in Florida we have a positivity rate of 19% with a governor who says he is doing a great job. He won’t have a mask mandate, won’t allow schools to have a mask mandate, and says he will never allow restrictions again. We have almost 12,000 in the hospital currently and 2500 in ICU. One Miami hospital, last week said they had 18 children in the hospital of which 9 were in the ICU. He wants to run for President and is touting his handling of this crisis. He is a disaster.

Two weeks ago, the 39 year old owner of a business in Old Bisbee had a birthday party with couple dozen of his close friends and then they headed out to do a bar crawl. A week later he was in the hospital
and he died overnight. Supposedly, at least two bars are having trouble with staffing because staff tested positive. Bars are open, with few people wearing masks but lots of tshirts telling people the wearer believes in Freedom

I like Biden's appeal to Gov's to either help or get out of the way. When I first heard that I thought specifically of Desantis. His approach to dealing with the pandemic has led to untold death and sickness in Florida. Our Gov here in Texas, Abbott, has been a disaster as well.

I'd like to see the demographics of the people who have tested positive in these "red" states. Why aren't we getting that info? Here in NJ, it is widely known that the new cases are overwhelmingly from the minority community.

There is an exception to every rule. COVID is new and of course there are going to be some outliers. But the single most important fact in this battle against COVID is actually a number: 97.8% vs 2.2%.

That is the percentage as of yesterday of reported U.S. COVID hospitalizations of non-vaccinated vs vaccinated.

It is an overwhelming slam-dunk. It is a huge ratification of the effectiveness of the vaccines. If you are vaccinated, good for you! If not, please get your shot today!

Hot spots in New Jersey;
Those hot spots now include more than half of the counties in New Jersey, with Somerset and Gloucester joining the list on Thursday night. Residents of areas with "substantial" or "high" rates of transmission, based on federal Centers for Disease Control metrics, were urged to don face coverings regardless of vaccination status under the new guidance issued Monday.

Other counties on the list are Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Essex, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Union, as of Friday. Monmouth has the highest rate of transmission in the state, according to the CDC. Only one county — Cumberland — is considered to have a low rate of transmission.

When I lived in NYC, we referred to most of those counties as "Whitelandia".

Bill, You've got to be kidding, no? All of the counties you mentioned have substantial minority populations, with the exception of Ocean County. The whitest counties in NJ are Hunterdon, Warren, Sussex, and Morris, and Ocean.

I think we are in deeper doo doo than most of us realize. Over 200 hospital staffers at Sanfrancisco hospitals just got the Delta virus most are fully vaccinated. When you have time, read up on the Lambda variant. It may be resistant to vaccines. Its just getting a foothold here as well. Came from South America.

Those numbers included university of CA health system. From updated NYT post: On Aug. 2, the university clarified that 146 of the cases were among staff members in its health system, and that 37 were among U.C.S.F. researchers, other university staff and students. It also reported that, of the two people hospitalized, one was vaccinated and the other was not.

Several Yankees are out after testing positive with Covid. They are expected back in ten days BECAUSE THEY ARE VACCINATED.
