Nineteen minus one is 18 which is old enough to buy a pack of 20 cigarettes.

I had the same thought mamajama but the roman numberal "i" is indeed the roman numberal for one. Which reminds me of what my wise ancestor once said:"One think thereIV one morning." People didn't think he was very bright.
