Special thought of you Dad (WWII-Navy) and my brother (Vietnam-Army) and Sweet C's dad (WWII/Korea-Navy) thanks for your service.

Well said LL!  My father and many uncles were all in WW2. Also had others serve in Korea and Vietnam, thanks to all for giving us the freedom we have today.   Do not want to forget the ladies who were home keeping the family and country working. These were tough gals, many raising a family and building the machinery we needed.  I have had it easy.

Well said. My mom drove from Texas to New York City during the WWII with my then 4 and 2 year old sister and brother to see my dad off before he headed to the Pacific. Today's military families often make the same type of sacrifices, especially since a smaller percentage of our country serves more tours.

OOH-RAH....

Theory is that the word originated with the Second Dragoons in Florida as "hough" in 1841.

In an attempt to end the war with the Seminoles, a meeting was arranged with the Indian Chief Coacoochee. After the meeting, there was a banquet. Garrison officers made a variety of toasts, including "Here's to luck" and "The old grudge" before drinking. Coacoochee asked Gopher John, an interpreter, the meaning of the officers' toasts. Gopher John responded, "It means, ÔHow d'ye do.'"

The chief then lifted his cup above his head and exclaimed in a deep, guttural voice, "hough."

While not exactly the same, I loudly raised a Makers Mark while in Chicago yesterday with some friends in salute to our Marine connection. Today, my flag is waving proudly in front of my house back here in Florida, thinking about the other friends that I have lost.

And a special tribute to my many high school classmates who fought and died in the early years of Viet Nam, including my best neighborhood and school buddy.
   Also, a very special thanks to both of my folks who most of you know thank God I still have. Dad is an army WW2 vet having served during the war years right through most of 1945. Mom served in a civilian capacity processing German prisoners coming in still in Uniform to Newport News Va. toward the end of the war.
   Finally a salute to all those who serve or have served in whatever capacity to keep us safe in this insane world.
