Hurricane Irma Chaos

With a level 5 hurricane bearing down on Florida, it seems like everyone and his brother is abandoning ship. The Tampa Hard Rock is at the Intersection of I-75 and I-4, one of the busiest intersections in the State. Yesterday the traffic over there was backed up for miles with people heading north. We both grew up in Florida and have been through many a hurricane. Our home in South Florida was only a few miles from where Andrew came in. This hurricane is the one they have been warning us about. I hope people near the ocean heed the warnings and evacuate. Most of the damage from hurricanes comes from tidal surge and flooding. Where we are, it's downed trees and flying objects. If our house blows away, we will be living in Black Hawk for a while.

Never been, never want to ride a storm out. I know friends that have moved to Florida from Michigan. One hear Daytona the other in Coco Beach, both never been in one and both riding it out. Good luck to them, I would be gone. Irma is big mama. Andrew was its little child.

We are about 100 miles from both coasts. Our home is on a big lake, but it would take 8-10 feet more water to cause any real damage. Still, anything can happen.

Would it have been more appropriate to post this in the Strategy forum and not the recreational play forum?
I'm thinking strategy, as in: putting together a strategy to survive a level 4 hurricane?
And before anyone gets too critical of me for joking at a time like this I will offer that I have a sister who lives down there so I hope everyone stays safe down there.

everyone stays safe down there.[/quote]No problem. The best way to deal with these things is through humor. My grandson's wife is 8 months pregnant and they live in Ft. Myers. She freaked out and they drove north. I expect they are on the road somewhere between Florida and Michigan. We're staying here. Most of the gas stations are empty. Those that have gas have lines down the street. We have a backup house a few blocks away if this one flies off.

My son had just moved to Puerto Rico last week. He flew to Orlando two days ago, and is with my Uncle in the Villages. They are debating driving further north but my Uncles wife wants to stay.
God luck to all in the path.

Ted,
A friend of mine evacuated his hotel two days ago in Fort Lauderdale. It's right on the beach and they got out of Dodge. Hope your sister and family stay safe.

Phil, hope you and your family are safe. Billy and Ted hope your relatives are safe as well. The same wishes to all who have friends and relatives in Irma's path. We have relatives and good friends in Florida as well. Hopefully, all will be safe come out in one piece.
