Double Up

Post by Dr G »

I enjoy the Double Up feature installed on some machines. Years ago (30+), it was a little extra fun to apply after a winning hand. Having talked to a few company reps back then, I was assured that it was a continuation of the RNG. However, it recent years, I question the application of the RNG with frequent outcomes of being beat by 1 card, ties almost always followed by beat, and strings of as many as 6-7 continuous loses. As a statistician, I always pay attention to such things. Additionally, many casinos have discontinued the option entirely. Any thoughts?

Most people claim they are fair. I have no reason to doubt it.

A 50/50 proposition. One of the best bets in the casino.

If they allowed you to make the bet after a loss, it would be a great bet.

It depends on why you're playing.

If the game, including slot club and promotions, returns more than 100% (which is the only time to play in my opinion and I understand this is a minority opinion on this site), double up is a waste of time. Why play a 100% game when the game is already > 100%

If you're voluntarily playing a game that returns less than 100%, the double up feature is a GREAT bet. It allows you to kill time with an even bet before you have to go back to playing a negative game.

Except with rare promotions, it's a bad idea to potentially double yourself into a W2G situation.

I never used the double up feature before because I read in one of your books that it was a bad bet. I can see now I was making a mistake. Thank you for straightening this out.

Quarter players who voluntarily play games that return less than 100% normally have to choose between playing slots or video poker. Our slots pay back around 90%, making 97% quarter video poker a much better choice. Our only other choice is to stay home.

Double up returns 100%. It doesn’t add to the overall return. Not very interesting.
