Bankrole for those dry spells?

So, it seems lately I am always in one of those "dry spells", from my first $20 to the lint in my pockets.

I still a believe that something changed in the world of VP. Me and my wife were fairly steady at hitting Royals on .25 cent DDBP. Then all the sudden very few over a very long span. It wasn't until our last trip to Biloxi when I hit a couple Royals. But that's pretty much been it over the last couple years.
Frustrating to say the least.

I have never been steady at hitting royal flushes.

They come when they do. Always a pleasant surprise. Always feel I am overdue for the next one by the time they bring me my money. Sometimes they come back to back almost. Sometimes the dry spell between them is uncomfortably long. That is the nature of video poker. If you're playing competently, they will come around approximately the right number of times over millions of hands. They will definitely NOT come around the right number of times during short periods.

What HAS changed in video poker is pay schedules are tighter than they used to be --- at least if you're not highly selective in the games you play. Your results depend more on how much you get for full houses and flushes than how often you get a royal.

How much losing bothers you varies from player to player. Nobody likes to lose, but some of us have learned to be philosophical about it. We know our losing streak will end and winning will continue because we are playing games where we have the advantage.

henry tamburin mentioned in a video with american casino guide that in 2013 he only hit 3 royals in that year after 250,000 hands on average per year. in 2014 he said he hit 11 in 2 months of play in 18 sessions the total at the end of 2014 was 18 royals. all on 9/6 JoB.

i cant imagine how casual/recreational players would feel "due" in 2013.

My friend enjoys his VIP status for many years in AC and he always won something in TDP and lost some, up and down normally. However, during his recent visits in AC, no matter how skillful in his play with TDP, his favorite video poker game, he lost in every single play with TDP and never won anything, just down, down and down with all the money put in. It’s very strange that he did not even win a little bit and there’s no up time at all.

TDB is a "heaven or hell" game. With the 2-for-1 payout for trips, you get eaten alive quickly if you fail to hit the premium quads. Some days those premium quads come. Many times they don't.

Having several losing sessions in a row is nothing unusual in that game. It's just part of the game. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. and if you're not playing the 9-7 version, in addition to regularly losing, you're going to be a net loser at the game.

The fact that the most recent trip was a bad one is not particularly noteworthy. It doesn't signify a trend or anything of the kind. It's just those things happen. And they will happen again. The concept of "up and down normally" in TDB is just not the case. It's a game of big wins and big losses.

Bankroll for the dry spells in a must. Royals are very hard to hit. I have been all around them the last few trips and nothing. Four to the royals, dud draws. Hold 3 got one not the other over and over.

When your new to this game its hard to understand at times. You think the machines are rigged when you don't hit. They (the backroom) are turning them up and down. Not the case at all its the RNG and that's
it.

The first 36 trips over 72 days this year I hit 9 Royals. Over royaled by a lot. The past 35 trips No Royals. This might go on for months and months. I have been lucky to not have long down streaks. But this might be my first, only time will tell. Bankroll is key to be a long term player.
