Carnival Video Poker Games

Post by binbin »

Each year, more and more new VP games are introduced. Most are multiline games and have some funky quirk added, such as Split Card Poker, or Powerhouse Poker. Many of these games also never make it to casino floors. This seems to be the plan for table games these days. Do we call these "mutated" high variance games carnival video poker games? And besides traditional JOB and Deuces, what other games would you consider main-stream variations, such as UltX and STP?

Some would probably say any game with an additional bet or a different strategy is a "carnival game." For me, it's any of the games I don't play. ;)

Since you include Ultimate X, I'm guessing you just mean non-mainstream like you said. That game is about as wild as it gets, but also clearly popular.

So others might be Spin Poker, Wheel Poker... 3,5,10 play, 100 play? Maybe anything found on an All Star poker machine since those are also very common?

Some newer games might come off as a gimmick, but some that I personally hope become more mainstream would be:
Stackem High
Super Times Stracks
100 play wheel

All three of those come with an extra cost, but a bonus that is well worth it in my opinion. Some games it feels like the bonus is way too rare for the wager, but these games get it right I think. Bonuses often enough and the chance for a huge return when it hits.

I also have always loved both Super Draw 6 and Super Hand (where you get the best of 3 starting hands), but those can be hard to find. Wish there were more of those out there. I've played them both at Palazzo/Venetian in the past few years but not many other places.

Look at the projected return percentage, not how many bells or whistles the game has. Each to their own ------- for some players the extra gimmicks make a casino session more enjoyable/endurable. But regardless, know the projected return percentage, comps, the whole bottom line before you play any carnival game or even any traditional "mainstream" game.
