FOUR PLAY? Mohegan Sun

Saw and played this game this past weekend, me and my GF tried it. It was a 5-card, Jacks or Better type game with very LOW payouts for basic hands, however the 4 OF A KIND Paid 3200 Nickles on a $2 bet. Nickle denominations. This was on a Game Maker machine in Mohegan Sun. Often, on certain hands, the machine would recommend the player to KEEP two-pair or one-pair "wins" and bypass the chance to get the 4 Of a Kind and we felt that was incorrect strategy. I have been unable to find ANY links about this particular game and/or strategy. We played this game trying to get 4 of a Kinds ONLY, due to the incredible payout for what we were betting. MANY times we hit 3 of a kinds, but never improved to get 4. Anyone have experience w this particular game, seemed like a fun game.

It would be nice to see the complete pay scale.

As onemoretry said, if you have the complete pay schedule, it's relatively easy to get a basic strategy to play the game. Just give the amount of the bet, which I assume from your post is 40 nickels and give the amount won with each type of final hand.

By the way, if the pay schedules were any of the following, the game you are talking about would be the standard Bonus Poker Deluxe pay schedules for a 40-coin investment rather than the usual 5-coin maximum. The EVs are given below in the last row:

If all the payouts are less than or equal to those in one of the columns, the EV for the game in question would of course be lower.

Thanks for the Replies.. Yes actually it was Pay Scale #1 there on the left, seemed strange how 4 of a Kind would pay MORE than a straight flush (we are used to playing the 98.17% version of Pick-Em Poker). Surprised to see the EV so high at 99.64%. Will try this game again, seems to be a decent one.

They have this game for dollar at the TAj-I just cant get excited about $400 for 4 aces when WHA pays 1200!

In 9/6 bonus poker deluxe, drawing to two pair, and, on average, completing a full house approximately once every eleven or twelve tries, is a better play than drawing to a pair, and hitting a quad once every 360 or so tries. I think the strategy being suggested to you was correct.

This might be true for the first hand with the stated pay table and perfect play, but I doubt it will hold for the other hands because you can’t see and don’t have the opportunity to really play the other three hands. Whatever you hold in the first hand is also held in the others, so you could be holding, for example, two Aces over two of four threes, etc. Just a thought.
