I feel like Video Poker tournaments would be very fun and could become popular in Vegas. I would pay $200-$300 for a 2-3 hours video poker tournament where the house takes some rake and the winners split the pool, similar to poker. Is this run in Vegas? I would play in these once a week easily.

Lots of casinos have VP tournaments with good prizes. If you play at the property you might get an invite. Bill is right there is nothing like what you described

Comparing Video Poker to LIVE Poker (you know, with real cards and people) in terms of just STrategy and Thinking involved is like comparing Checkers (VP) with Chess (Live Poker). The effort that goes into Video Poker mostly involves stamina and memory (rote), as it is just a matter of memorizing what holds for which hands and then not playing past your endurance where you end up making errors or missing stuff. There is analysis BEFORE actually playing VP that involves identifying what or where to play in terms of the best advantage & benefits, but that's basically like comparative shopping....anyone with the desire and time to do this can do it (emphasis on those two elements, DESIRE and TIME; many people lack one of both of these things.)
Chess and Live Poker involve a LOT more in terms of creativity & innovation as well as basic analysis, memory, and an element of intuitiveness that many people do not possess or know how to apply.
