Well said Phil, and spot on true.....it's the equivalent of being "nose blind" to the smelly aspects of your own home (like your dog needing a bath or a visit to the doggie dentist.....anyone who visits notices such a thing immediately but you, out of sheer familiarity, become oblivious.)
But of course, in AC's case (not just the Borgota but ALL AC establishments) the fact that for the past decade Atlantic City has basically survived on wisps of hope and gasps of delusional nostalgia regarding the good ol' days when AC had a virtual monopoly on any and all gambling east of the Mississippi, makes proper maintenance of games all the more vital, not to mention just having a nice clean presentable place of gambling!
Can you imagine, or wonder, what exactly the logic or thought process is (with respect to maintenance and upkeep of the various casinos in AC) on the part of AC casino executives since 2006, the year when the monopoly essentially vanished and competition became a reality .....? I'd focus specifically on the Former "TRUMP" properties and other places like the defunct AC Club Casino (aka AC Hilton) or Resorts and of course Borgota. As a allegedly competent and intelligent casino executive earning a ridiculously overpaid salary that includes a "bonus" that is drawn in part from keeping operational expenditures at the absolute bare minimum, Surely you know your casino must have a minimum of cleanliness and order, and surely you must know not only the business requirement of having functional games but also the LEGAL requirements vis-a-vis NJ Casino Gaming Regs!!
So how does it come to pass, on any given day, week or month of the year, a player/customer can enter an AC casino and be subject to dirty, dysfunctional, disorderly games and unattractive (even unsafe) hotel accommodations??? How do you repeatedly rationalize in your mind, and to your staff & underlings the concept of NOT fixing ALL your Slots and VP machine buttons, of NOT keeping the casino and hotel fresh, clean and attractive, of NOT upkeeping and repairing the elevators in all of your hotel and casino wings & towers.....? This while simultaneously collecting a monthly, quarterly and/or yearly "bonus" or some other erstwhile form of compensation, on the money you DID NOT spend to make your establishment, better, more entertaining and safer (or in other words, making your establishment as a whole "better, more economically viable, and more likely to survive in the long run and staying profitable..."....or in OTHER-other words, doing your JOB as a casino executive for which you earn your base salary and for which your position exists in the first place??)
Overpaid, wasteful, oblivious, callous stuffed shirts who probably achieved their positions and job titles via the simple time tested way of just kissing the right arse, simply showing up everyday and simply NOT causing any headaches for the guy above them who would ultimately and eventually put them into the next overpaid position!
