Odds of getting dealt 4 Aces plus a 2

Post by QuadGod »

I play Big Times Video Poker, where you receive a multiplier based on the highest dealt card. If you are dealt 4 Aces plus a Deuce, the multiplier is 10. Can anyone tell me what the odds are of getting dealt 4 Aces and a Deuce? Thank you.

There are only four such combinations. That makes the likelihood the same as that for a dealt royal flush, i.e., 1 in 649740.

It happens! This one happened to me on October 6, 2018. 3, not a 2, but same odds.

Four aces with a kicker is a lot more likely. The odds against are "only" 216579 to 1.

Unless the game is regular Deuces Wild. Then it's an hourly occurrence! 🤣

Yep, happened to me last trip. Dealt X2AAA on LDW, held the 4 oak and got the last Ace. 😂

You've got that right!. I remember playing Quick Quad (10-play $1 @ Southpoint when the game was playable) forever; never once did I get dealt 4 Aces (with or without a kicker); during that same time frame, I got dealt 4 2's about 5 times, 4 3's about 4 times and 4 4's maybe 3-4 times (don't know about 5-K, although I got my fair share). Also, played $1 White Hot Aces (Spin Poker) @ Southpoint over many years---got dealt everything but Aces multiple times. So, I go play $2 Deuces Wild, 5 Play (@ Rainbow), within 10 minutes get dealt 4 Aces. I went to Orleans to play Bonus Poker Spin Poker (largest denom was $.25), got dealt 4 aces within 15 minutes--believe me that was NO big deal when you're used to playing dollars. And finally, played some California casino near San Diego on another Deuces Wild game, got dealt 4 Aces within maybe 20 minutes. Each time, a blood curdling scream emerged from somewhere in the proximity of the machine I was playing.
Now, just to be fair, I did get dealt 4 Aces with a Kicker (one time) on UX $.25 10-play @ Southpoint, although it occurred on one of the rare times I was playing Bonus Deluxe (in my case, with modest multipliers, I got $1,600 instead of $8,000). And, yes I did get dealt 4 Aces (no kicker) a couple of other times @Southpoint on UX DDB (for $12+K) and at Palms ($.50) for about $5,800 (few and low multipliers).
But, overall getting dealt 4 Aces sure seem to come a lot more often on Deuces Wild Games---CAN SOMEONE PLEASE DO THE MATH ON THAT?!?!?. Most recent case-in-point, was where the guy sitting next to me got dealt AAAA2 of 5 or 10 play UX (nickle game)---naturally, he was playing deuces wild, but he didn't seem the least bit upset that all he ended up with was five-of-a-kinds. I sat there, green with envy, wondering WHY IT NEVER HAPPENS TO ME when I'm playing DDB!

Okay, I have a confession to make. What prompted the first question of the post was an experience I had last Wednesday. Playing $.25 x 5 play BIG TIMES video poker (a game I have played for the past 5 or 6 years---a couple of days a month, since it is a total 3 1/2 hour commute), I got dealt 4 Aces plus a 2 for $25,000. When the five cards appeared (along with the 10x multiplier), I was in shock. It shows 20,000 credits on the dealt-card line and my eyes did a double take---I couldn't quite digest the fact that there were four zeroes after the "2." In fact, the numbers don't quite fit within the template, since it is apparently such a rare occurrence. When it finally dawned on me that I had hit the hand I had been chasing all this time, I did a celebratory dance (before holding the five cards---because I like to take a photo of the dealt hand before holding the cards---I know, I know, everyone's going to tell me that's crazy) and then slowly pushed the "hold" button for all 5 cards. Seconds later, the other hands filled in and then the $25,000 Jackpot sign intermittently flashed. It's been four full days since, and I still don't believe it---I have to look at the screen shot on my phone to prove to myself it really did happen. BTW, it took about an hour to get paid (and have the mechanic check out the machine, etc.), but I didn't mind waiting in the least.
Now, if someone can explain in very simple terms how to post the photos (and I mean "simple"), I'll be happy to do that.
