Latest Vegas Adventure

Post by onemoretry »

I mentioned in a previous post that we were heading off to Las Vegas. That trip is now "in the books", and, fortunately, I didn't have to use red ink to record it - thanks to my wife's good fortune.

Unlike last year's visit to Vegas, at a somewhat similar time of year, we had absolutely no difficulties with our flights. We departed Buffalo precisely on time, and actually arrived in Las Vegas 40 minutes early. The flight back to Buffalo also left right on time, with an on-time Buffalo arrival. The one negative aspect of our travels was the 20-30 minutes needed to scrape ice and snow from our vehicle which had been parked outside at the Buffalo airport.

Our stay in Las Vegas was twelve nights. We started with four nights at Main Street Station (MSS) and then moved to the M for four nights, before going back to Main Street Station for the final four nights.

Our play at Main Street Station was almost all multiline (3,5,or 10) 8/5 bonus poker, although we did have one brief single line 25c NSU deuces wld session.

At the M, I played 3 and 5 line 25c airport deuces and 9/7 double bonus, my wife played 3 and 5 line airport deuces and 7/5 super aces (her favourite game), and we both played some single line 25c NSU deuces.

And, we did play one afternoon at some Caesar's properties on the strip in order to extend the validity of our substantial reward credit balance. We played briefly at six properties (25c single line 6/5 bonus poker), and somewhat less briefly at the Cromwell, where they have 25c single line NSU deuces, albeit @ $50/tier credit. Ironically, I came out ahead on the 6/5 bonus play, thanks to catching quad aces, and on the NSU deuces, too, thanks to quad deuces.

Overall, my coinin for the trip was just under $208,000, which equates to 166,400 hands at $1.25 per hand. Of that, $157,000 was at MSS, $49,000 at the M, and $2000 at the Caesar's properties.

Unfortunately for me, those 166,400 hands generated only one royal flush (on a 2 card draw), despite having in the order of 70-80 one card royal draws. When all was said and done, and despite a fairly good start to the trip (day 2 was +$2000), I finished the trip down $2945 at the machines. Actually, at about 1.4% of coinin, that wasn't too bad, considering the lack of royals. That loss was somewhat offset by "free" slot play ($270), cash back ($301 at the M, and $542 at MSS), and $676 in MSS scratch cards, for a net loss of about $1150.

And, very fortunately, while all this was going on, my wife was piling up the royals. She finished the trip with seven of them (I like to think of it as "us" having eight), and ahead, overall, by about $2800.

As is our norm, we stayed ay Seneca Niagara for one night on the way home, where she added $600 to her winning total, and I added $400 to my losses.

Needless to say, we were pretty happy with the way the trip turned out, as there have been several tough ones, of late.

What a great trip!!! Congrats. Just curious OMT.... how many if any of the Royals were more than 2 card draws. I haven’t had one of those in years.

I'm sorry, but I just don't know the answer to that. As I stated before, mine was a two card draw, but I just don't know the details of all hers.

No big deal at all. Lots of folks hold A10 but I dont. I probably pay a bit of a penalty as well for not holding 2 to a royal on a deuces wild game.

My buddy got this on the other night on Bonus Deuces progressive game. No idea if it's the correct play.

Not by much, but it is the correct hold. I would have opted for a new hand which would have been incorrect and would have missed the Royal. Over the years though, I have tossed similar 2 card holds, but got a real Royal on the redraw.

There were no more stories for 2020. None of us knew it at the time, but that trip report was destined to be my annual report as well. Aside from a brief, part day trip to a local casino (before they closed down) on February 24, we have not been in a casino since.

Given the current Covid situation, I fully expect that we will surpass the one year mark before we get back to a casino.

We still have a family farm in Southwestern Virginia. It is just a stone’s throw from the Tennessee line. I just heard from the next door neighbor down there. Other than he and hus wife, ( they are about my age), the entire family has or had Covid. One relative is on a ventilator and not expected to make it. The people work either in health care, at the prison, or in local construction. The neighbor told me that right now, the covid tests down there are coming back about 30 percent positive. Guess we all should stay out of casinos for awhile or make limited short trips with ultra careful protocols.
