I have to say if our kids were still granmar school age, the Mrs and I would home school them rotating classes and each of us help with teaching our strongest subjects. Mrs. was a reading teacher before classrooms. So English, reading, and even history are her strong suit. I would do math, Science, history too, and maybe art, and gym. Of course I would have recess and snack time. So many parents do not have the luxury of being able to do it either from work and day care schedules and needs, or just a general lack of how to teach and keep the kids/class interested . Being married to a first grade teacher 48 years helps. Sometimes, I feel like I may know more than some of the teachers who have just graduated. I have never been on a road trip with her where the car wasn’t covered in lesson plans and such as I drove. Now, it is strange to not see that, but there is always a book being read on the road as we drive. There is no easy answer that is for sure and it appears the virus is still really trying to do us all in. PS.....My friend and I did a Mr. Wizard show for her class a couple of times, but I must admit I don’t miss classroom clean up for a couple of weeks of summer break, or 2 weeks of prep and setup for the next school year in August. No airconditioning of course.

Yep, we grown a little since then.
The official city limits have been expanded over the years to 671 square miles. The Houston Metro area is now over 7 million people (larger than all but 13 states and now covers 10,000 square miles (bigger than Rhode Island, Delaware, Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Vermont. When you left we had Loop 610 around the inner city and then 5 miles out Beltway 8 around the city (88 miles to complete the circle), soon we will be completing the Grand Parkway Texas 99 which will circle the city from Cypress, Katy, Sugar Land, Pearland, Clear Lake, Baytown, Liberty, around Lake Houston to north of Humble, Conroe, and back to Cypress. The whole circle will be 180 miles to make the trip around the metro area. Don't know if you've been back in a while but Interstate 10 E/W through the city is now 14 lands on the west side to Katy. On my side I can get to the medical center from the east on I-10/via 610 (30 miles in about 35-40 minutes depending on traffic. Unfortunately those coming in from other parts make that same distance in 1 - 1 1/2 hours during rush hour. Being a native one of things I most enjoy is the incredible ethnic diversity. There is probably no city in the US where one see such diversity and opportunity. And, with no state income tax, its a haven for businesses and growth. As you know the area is so big that growth will continue for years. All our flat land leads to flooding but also provides builders with the land to build new residential houses with 2,000-3,000 sq ft in ranges from $90-150/Square foot.

olds,
Boy, do I remember those days. Lesson plans or for me schedules, staff notes, curricula notes, etc. One of my fondest memories was in 1965 when my junior high (i was in 8th) built the new 9th grade wing which I moved into the next year and a new high school next door. Both had A/C and I now look back and wonder how i survived all those Texas summers without any A/C.
Heck, during the heat spell a few weeks ago I'd go out at 10 pm to walk and the heat index was still over 105. I walk back in and Sweet C would just laugh. "Didn't I tell you were a fool to try to walk tonight-get on the bike in the game room."

My idea of an exercise bike. Still tacked up on the fridge is still a Harley ad from 1974 with a long since retired local Divorce attorney’s ad next to it. At the time my best friend and still is though he is in a nursing home, was a ZZ Top twin wearing silver skulls and all. Of course he rode all the time even to Sturges by himself. He is a brilliant engineer and long since retired. You would never know it by the look. Sorry, I digress. I couldn’t help myself when I heard the word exercise bike!

Didn't realize you were such a youngster LL. Funny you mentioned taking a walk at 10 at night and Sweet C's reaction. I literally got back inside about 1 1/2 hours ago from my daily nightly walk. It was still over 100 when I went out after 10. Were my wife still alive, there is no way she would have let me out of the house. I had to wait until it cooled down to about 101 as we hit 116 today. Curtailed my time to 25 minutes, normally I do 40 and about 2 miles. Finished my bottle of water and felt discretion was the better part of valor. The only way I can do it is because the humidity is in single digits, the pollution was in the healthy range , I drink plenty of water before and during my walk and I live in a well lit gated community. Y'all stay safe and healthy.

LL, did you grow up in the Houston area or did you move there from another part of the State? In addition to diversity the thing I remember most about Houston was the humidity. Even in the part of Texas where we live now we have humidity but no where near the oppressive levels in Houston.

Also nice to see many of us walk as part of our daily regimen. My wife and I started walking over 20 years ago back when we were still working. Even then, as early risers we would walk in the morning. Because of the shorter winter days we often walked with headlamps as we usually started before six in the morning. We have a walking trail on our property where we do most of our walking but even if we are out of town on a casino trip or for something else we can always find a place to walk. Walking if probably the least expensive and most effective thing we can do as we get older to stay in shape.

1:12 I sit quietly as she playing and I watch my flush 7-A-10-9-Q and hold of A-10-Q hit a 25¢ Royal on JOB on hand #4. We both laugh as I send her a text with the picture.
did you really throw a dealt flush (worth 25 or 30 coins depending on pay schedule) away to hold AQT (worth about 6 coins)?

I hope you get your medication adjusted before you go play again!

Holy Cow! I missed that myself. Reading too quickly, I assumed it was 4 to the Royal not 3. Well, I guess LL got his name from somewhere!!!!

Me too. I missed that as well Olds. I bet he meant a 4 to a royal flush tossing the 7 and getting the royal. I have done that on several occasions. I have never tried to break up a flush holding only 3 to a royal.

He said they were exhausted so maybe it was last hand of the night and he figured what the heck. He clearly said he threw away the 7 and a 9. Even I have never done and would never do that in a casino. In a tournament here, I would do that if it was my last hand and I needed a royal to win.
