Bob was correct in my mention of "tax free" being from La. state taxes. The win occurred at a Native American casino which does not collect the La. tax of 6%. Even at Native American casinos the win amount is reported to the US as per law. Also correct, non-La. residents may file for return of their La. taxes. Ironically, on our trip over the three of us had discussed our anticipate La. tax returns. During the discussion, we mentioned we were being audited for our amount (less than 2 dozen G-statements between Sweet C and me). Carrie mentioned that a Golden Nugget player, who plays many of the same games she plays, stated he was being audited by La. for his over 1,500 G-statements for 2019 and awaiting his return. Their conversation occurred after she won her second $100K jackpot in February.
