Saturday, I was beaten to a free machine by ten seconds. I decided to watch the JOB play and could not believe what I saw. Every two face card hand, he held only one card. He proceeded to quickly lose $200 on dollar play. A subsequent hundred kept him afloat a bit longer as he continued to fiddle and struggle. I then occupied the seat vacated by a flush $2,150 victor. Fortunately, I would hit a max quad. If you cannot play JOB, play craps. It’s more fun and communal.

More times than I can count, I have been beaten to a machine by from one to ten steps. It seems like if you are headed in that direction, it sets off something and someone grabs it. Now what I do is head to a different machine and pretend no interest in the one I want. More often than not, they will wander away from the one I want and I can grab it.

Was it so crowded that free machines are scarce or is that one machine superior to it's neighbors?

I can’t answer for FAA, but at Mohegan Sun, out of the thousands of machines, more than half are turned off due to covid. There are only a handful of 99 percent machines left and less than a handful of DDS machines which are ancient. The casinos are slowly but surely being overrun with mindless penny machines that return anywhere from 86 to 91 percent. Most of them require a bet of 3 or 4 bucks to have a shot athe top bonuses. They can keep them all as far as I am concerned. Let’s see what FAA says too.

I thought we were supposed to hold these "nitwits" in high esteem, since their inferior play is to our benefit- especially on better paytable machines. Chances are they won't be there long anyway.

Have you ever been at a craps table where a person cannot play/does not understand/holds up the game? To me, that's even more frustrating, unless they are very attractive women...

Are you sure they are novices? An elderly woman sitting next to me the other night was holding Ace/King off-suit playing a DDB progressive. Wouldn't bet on her being a novice.

Why would a player criticize another player for how that other person is playing their machine? From what the original poster presents, it starts out sounding like sour grapes because the original poster was "beaten out" to the machine by this other player. But later the original poster states that they hit a max quad on the other machine they "were forced to play" so the original poster made some pretty good whine from the sour grapes he had earlier harvested.

I personally don't give a hoot how others are playing, I only give a hoot how I am playing.

This same scenario painted by the original poster happened to me this past Sunday when I went over to Harrah's Joliet to knock out some freeplay. Because I already have CET Diamond Elite earned until 2022 and I have no desire to stretch for Seven Stars my plan for freeplay is to play through the freeplay at a low denomination and walk with anything earned. Two Sunday's ago I followed this plan and played 10 play TDB at .05 denomination. I hit AWAKS and left 15 minutes later up $250.00.

This past Sunday 9/20 I had the same plan in mind. I got there early and was "beaten" to this same machine by a few steps by another player. I didn't gripe, I just went to another machine, albeit with a higher denomination, and I began play. Starting at .25 denom 10 play ACJP I was quickly dealt 4 of a kind and failed to connect on the needed 5th card but it still was a $200.00 hit. I then got 2 straight flushes for $125.00 apiece. I told myself I would walk with a profit of $300.00. Soon after I was dealt trip 4's (2 4's and the Joker), hit draw and the other 2 4's filled in for a 1k 5OAK. I promptly hit cash out and walked up $1,300.00.

My point to the original poster: sometimes things happen for a reason.

It was the only available machine, hence the sour grapes. But I got a great comedy show, and netted a max quad at the next available machine anyway. So a delicious whine indeed! And yes, inconvenience aside, I’m glad such players exist. I actually “don’t give a hoot how” they’re playing. In this portion of the forum, we relate stories, hence my contribution. Feel free to look the gift horse in the mouth and ignore.

And the gift horse would be?

FAA, sometimes your posts remind me much of a spiral maze.

About 30 years ago a good friend of mine had a small boutique type clothing store. Pretty high-end and in a ritzy area. When I would go visit him, I would walk over to something really nice and I would hold it up talking to myself knowing there were a couple of other women shopping nearby. I would say something like oh this is really nice and it is so well-made she is really going to like this. Then I will drape it over my arm and walk up to the counter as if I was going to pay for it. More often than not the other women shopping or at least one of them would pick up the same garment and their size and take it up to the register and buy it. Just goes to show the crazy things that can convince people to do something.
