Circa opened at midnight last night

Post by BobDancer »

It's been a long time since Las Vegas opened up a new casino. Opening up at midnight is pretty strange. If they opened up at 7 p.m. or so, they'd have a lot more people who function at that hour.

The Circa is at the corner of Fremont and Main, downtown, where the Las Vegas Club used to be. I showed up at about 5:30 a.m., hoping most of the opening crowd was gone. They were. And so were most other people.

Bottom line --- it's gorgeous --- and there are very few video poker games and the ones that are there are not player friendly. There are some 8/5 Jacks or Better machines. Most of the games are tighter than that.

They have a decent selection of games in the 96% - 97% range. If that's your cup of tea, knock yourself out.

Hope you like it noisy. The music is VERY VERY loud and it's hard to have a conversation --- especially with masks on. The staff is brand new, of course, and not well-trained. I had a whole lot of questions about how the slot club worked and most of the boothlings (and the one host I spoke to) simply didn't know. Maybe they haven't decided yet!

Interesting. I am considering a Vegas trip with my 600$ airfare comp, but would like to try Reno or Lake Tahoe. What was the previous last new casino opening?

On the bright side- they probably had no idea who you were...did you even bother to apply for a card?

There shouldn't be any mystery as to how the slot club worked, because it's part of the "One" players' club, which includes the pre-existing "D" and Golden Gate casinos. They do have tier levels now, but a cursory read of the club benefits reveals there's nothing to see here. 3 tiers, the middle and top tier give you free parking. Otherwise, you'll pay $4 an hour, and there is NO validation, even if you gambled or dined there. NOPE.
I hate the D and Golden Gate, worse than South Point in terms of air quality (if you smoke, you can just breathe in the nasty secondhand smoke and save money on smoking).
If you are a nightowl/earlybird, you can get 99 cent shrimp cocktails, similar to what DuPar's served at GG. Aha, only served at that price between 3 and 5 a.m. Otherwise, Saginaw's will charge you $11 for the exact same thing, during "normal" hours. Um, NOPE again.
Final note: The Golden Nugget was not so friendly when Circa opened: $50 to park in their garage -- they called it a "special event fee." (they always charge for parking, just not $50)
Welcome to Vegas

The obvious AP play here is to load up on Shrimp cocktails from 3-5 AM and then resell them during the day. You can triple your money.

Now THIS is really hilarious: Circa has amended its' originally crappy offer of 99 cent shrimp cocktails between 3 and 5 am.

You now must first purchase an entree at Saginaw's in order to qualify for the 99 cent shrimp in an adorable tulip glass. Given the fact that most entrees are grossly overpriced ($18 for an omelet or $22 for a reuben sandwich), that tiny shrimp isn't looking so great any more, even at 99 cents.

Well, that took less than 24 hours for Circa to tighten up rules, ha ha, must have been too many tiny shrimp demolishing their bottom line profits on opening day. Hilarious.

Incidentally, one item on the Saginaw's menu is even more hilarious: It's a sandwich, with typical deli meat and cheese on rye bread "served in an extra-big basket."
Because the sandwich is SERVED IN AN EXTRA BIG BASKET, it will cost you $42.
It doesn't say the sandwich is extra big, it's the basket it comes in, all for the bargain price of $42.

:D :D :D :D :D

Saginaw has a fun YouTube interview. “If my name is on it, my ass is in it. We want to be a place where locals go. The Russian dressing running down your forearms.” Locals will barely be able to afford the matzoh ball soup at those prices! The decor is cool.

I guess I am spoiled and don’t even realize it. Mohegan Sun has free parking for everyone, 9/6 job quarters and other 99 percent quarter games. Beautiful rooms and suites that are free for me weekdays, always free shrimp coctails in the lounge even with covid going on. They are keeping it as immaculate as possible with more wipe and sanitizer dispensors than I can count, and non stop cleaning crews. Of course no smoking at least for now. The only thing missing for me is a winning streak, but I sure can’t complain about the rest based on what I am reading here. Just to add, the staff is super friendly and for the most part very knowledgeable. By the way, I can bring guests into the lounge if any of the gang heads up this way. Can’t promise a free room, but can offer free food and unlimited free drinks in the lounge and on the floor as well.

Tropicana will be back comping me rooms if I play (lose) enough on any given trip, so we should all acknowledge that rooms are already prepaid. I may be desperate enough to make a MS trip if November comes a cropper in AC. I remain foolishly ever hopeful of a big hit. Last week I played with abandon and was rewarded with the opportunity to crawl out of the car crash at the last possible moment. That ten coin JOB was thrilling and chilling at the dollar level. I should have stuck with BP! What the hell was I thinking? BP and the others are all mercifully five coin on the machines.

Tropicana and Resorts are the 2 casinos any video poker player should avoid in AC.
