Video Poker is an enigma I'll never fully understand...

So after a hot streak of royal flushes starting in early August and ending abruptly in October, I'm on a royal-less dry spell *sigh*
Anyways the other day I played for no less than 2 hours solid w/o a single hand over a FH and they're about to close for the night so I cash out, walk towards the kiosk but I stopped suddenly at the only other machine in the place I didn't play yet, TDB...first hand, held three towards a straight flush and got it...wtf!!! Played .25 denim so only like 62 bucks but I was like where the hell have these hands been all night!!?

There were times I went literally YEARS without hitting a royal flush. I have hit a lot over my 40 years video poker playing career but I have NEVER hit 4 aces w/a kicker on Double Double Bonus Poker. I have hit 4 aces w/a kicker dozens of times on other video poker games where there is no bonus for that.

I have went thousands of hands on the same machine without hitting a 4 of a kind. It has happened many times. However I have had 4 of a kinds back to back and many times had maybe 5 in 200 hands. Variance.

If you have not hit 4 aces with a kicker in DDB after 40 years you have not been playing DDB a lot.

Keep playing and it will come (I hope)

Most who have read my posts over the years know that I have had two Royalless streaks of over 600,000 hands each in the same year or so. That is in the course of 25 years of play and about 20,000,000 hands or more. Yet, in the same day about five years ago on two different machines and games, won exactly 18,000 dollars on each game with different bet amounts on each game. One was a dealt Royal on Double Down Stud Deuces Wild and the other was a dollar machine playing 3 lines of Spin Poker Bonus Deuces Wild and 4 Deuces with an Ace was dealt. Just last week I hit a sequential Royal my first in a lifetime of play. Now another horrible dud streak has set in. Such is the nature of VP. It is worse than trying ro time the Stock Market.

Another horrible dud streak? After only a week? Is that how fast you play 600,000 hands?

The only thing that helps most of the time is walking away. Cash out after an hour if you’re 20% down. A quad would make you about even, if it ever comes.

Crazy how that works. Over about a 7 or 8 year period I played Southpoint’s Double Double Bonus $1 10-play Quick Quads (when it was 9-6 full pay), $1 White Hot Aces Spin Poker (99.57%). I kept track of dealt 4OAK’s. I was never dealt 4 Aces on either game, though I was dealt 38 4OAK’s on QQ (not including 4OAK QQ hands) and 34 4OAK’s on WHA’s; I did get dealt 4 Aces a few times on Southpoint’s UX 25C game (once for $12K+) and on Super Double Bonus. During this time, I would on very rare occasions (2% of the time) play Deuces Wild—-I can think of 4 times I got dealt 4 aces on multi-play deuces—twice within the first 10 to 50 hands. Still can’t figure that out!

By horrible dud streak, I mean hitting almost nothing and wiping out a 500-1,000 bankroll in a hurry. It continues for 2021, so I have cut my trips also because of covid spiking everywhere. The casino has even partnered with Yale and set up a covid testing site in one of their garages.
Getting back to dud streaks, here is an example of last night’s session that easily wiped another 500 plus. Playing nearly 99 percent Airport Deuces Wild on a quarter game, I went three hours and about 2,000 hands and never hit any of the following.....Royal of course, quad deuces, Wild Royal, 5 of a kind, and not even a straight flush. I don’t know the probability of this, but it has to be extremely high, Almost incomprehensible to me, especially not even hitting a straight flush.
With my last hundred bucks, I played about 600 hands of Joker kings 940/17/7, and never even hit a quad. Quads normally on this game show up if I remember in the long run about 4 times as often as JOB.
I have only played about 50,000hands so far since my last Royal on 12/13.
