Approaching 300! How should we Celebrate?

Post by Lucky Larry »

Sweet C and me started our VP odyssey in late fall 2005. The Scott, Director of Slots at Delta Downs, and I became friends and he suggested I learn to play VP instead of slots. I went out bought some $19 software at Best Buy, started reading some VP books and everything I could get online and trained like an Olympian. I'd come home from school and often play several thousands of hands a night practicing. My third trip back to DD to play VP and I hit my first RF on Aces/Faces. Sweet C and I have been hooked ever since. I mean a $1,000 for a $1.25 bet!!!!!! Wow!!!!

I track our play and we predominately play 3-5 hand multi-hand VP. We are now approaching 300 Royals on denomination of 25¢ or more (296). I caught 295/296 on 25¢ this past trip at Coushatta. We're probably over 700 -800 on 5¢ (5 RF this trip on 2$/5¢) and under but I don't keep track. The highlight this year was Sweet C's dealt Royal on 3 hands @ 50¢ last month for a nice $6K. So we've been talking about how to celebrate this next milestone. We're open to suggestions.

A couple of interesting stats from the spreadsheet.
First: Nov. 18 2005
Worst Year: 2017 - 3 Royals
Best Year: 2019 - 43 Royals
Next Best: 2015 - 36 Royals
Dealt Royals (any denomination): 20 Royals
Best Dealt Year: 2011 - 4 Dealt Royals
Highest Win: Dealt Royal $10,000

I should say get out and get some fresh air maybe down by the shore. After that, you know what I am going to say…..Casino. I would opt for a nice surf and turf dinner like Sea scallops Or gulf shrimp with a mini fillet mignon on the side. And some fresh asparagus. Cocktails of course or an ice cold draft beer. Then either taking a show or a game or even play a little bit maybe each of you tossing in 250 bucks on a machine play together and see what happens. Get some rest. We never seem to somehow get enough of that these days. Enjoy!!

Prior to Covid, my advice would be to take a cruise. Relaxing and a great way to meet people and establish friendships while visiting interesting places. Oh yes, there are casinos on board, terrible pay tables, but a nice way to decompress for a short while after a long day. You will find that there is enough to keep you busy that the casino will be an afterthought. When things get better, worth considering.

June 7, we finally broke the 300 Royal Flush boundary in spectacular fashion. I've been tracking our Royals since we began playing VP and I hit my first one Nov. 18, 2005 on my third trip to play VP. I track on spread sheet our VP play and have tracked all our Royals with pays $1,000 or over on 25¢ denominations or above. On Thursday, June 2 at Choctaw Casino Durant OK, I caught number 299 on Joker Poker. We returned Monday, June 6 but didn't even hit 4 deuces. Fate led us to stay over night on Tuesday, June 7 and I caught 3-25¢ Royals on Deuces Wild (a fourth one earlier on 2¢) in a 20 minute period with #2 & #3 being 4 minutes apart. That gives us 15 for the year already. We probably won't beat our two best years 2015 (36) and 2019 (43) since we're behind schedule for both years.

Congrats guys. Next goal heeeeee breaking the sound barrier at 761!!!! I know you guys can do it! Better fire up that XS-1 Like Chuck Yeager did in 1947.
Speaking of being behind the 8 ball, I only have one for 2022 on quarters 1,000 or higher and 4 other little ones. The Mrs has 2 little ones and one is times two. I find this quite amazing since I play about 2O,000 quarter hands a week. I didn’t really think about it until now, but it looks like I am very close to that 600,000 number again that I have unfortunately done twice before in prior years. “ Holy Cow its not Phil Rizzuto for the Money Store “. At least the one I had was 15,200 quarters. Like we say, or at least I do, in video poker virtually nothing is impossible.

olds,
You play more often than we do but I only rarely play single hand. IMO: single hand is as boring as watching paint dry (unless you're hitting) or as painful as fighting off our monster Gulf Coast mosquitos. Sweet C can do it but I try and unless I'm hitting frequently enough to keep my interest....back to multi-hand.

OT:I told Sweet C that the other afternoon while in the yard I thought I saw one mosquito so big it was carrying off a small hummingbird.
Being close to the Houston Ship Channel is always a challenge during the summers/fall/spring and sometimes the winter. Yeah, they're mostly year round here. The channel is dredged and they create spoilt banks or islands on the sides of the channel which become wet mosquito breeding pits. Instead of channel fog we get channel swarms of mosquitos coming in at dusk. I'm so tempted to put in a bat house but the mosquitos would still probably win that game. I probably need to start a petition to put bat houses on the islands. The good news is that when you swat your leg you can kill a half dozen to a dozen.

Years ago, we stopped in South Carolina on our way to Florida. The motel had a giant zapper. Don’t know if that would help. Up here we have very aggressive tiger swamp mosquitos. They hang in the Salt marsh, but stray a bit up to our house sometimes. Brutal. Knock on wood, have only seen a couple in the yard so far. I hate to even look at the pic. They also transmit West Nile Virus. Back to vp, I don’t mind single line games because I increase my bets in moderation as I lose. Lately I have been playing more Spin Poker, but have only hit the little Royals. Not when I have a big bet in.

Totally agree! I wouldn't say I never play single line, but I much, much prefer 3,5,10 and 50 play, if it's available without the pay scale penalty that some posters have mentioned.

Unfortunately, all of the Multiline games I have found at Mohegan Sun have the penalty. Nothing over 99 percent. The best I can get is 98.44 Joker Kings on a Spin Poker game. Maybe I missed something on games I don’t play, but I don’t think so.
