Ask to see the JP Log?

So I am playing at the Ameristar which I don't visit often but decided to go since I havn't been in awhile.  Paytables aren't the best on the floor so I end up in the HL room which has a bank of 5 - $2, $5, $10 & $25.  Playing $2 holding my own and I notice this guy walks in.  He gets friendly with a couple of the slot attendants so he must be a regular.  He sits on the other end of me and then calls the slot attendant over and asks if he could see the HP log or something to that effect didn't quit catch what he asked. But the slot attendant puts card and key in clicks through some menus and ends up at a screen that shows a log such as. 5/14/2012 12:48 PM $2,0005/18/2012 9:02 PM $1,600 its obviously a list of the last 10-15 hand pays with dates and amounts. He say OK let me see this one, so they do the same on the next machine i guess he sees what he likes and says OK and after the slot attendant logs off he begins to play machine #2. I didn't even know this was possible?  Has anyone else ever requested to see this list or have seen anyone else ask to see this list?  I am wondering if it is a right or a privelage thing.

Are you sure that he was just a player, or was he a Gaming Commission guy? The only time I have been able to see any type of machine log, as a player, is when there was a dispute. I complained at Harrah's LV once about an STP machine, where I played in excess of 50 hands without getting a multiplier. The supervisor and tech validated my story by pulling up the machine log. In the end, though, they maintained that the machine was operating correctly, and that the multiplier was, of course, random.

I would think that any JP history on a machine would be casino confidential.
