I avoided the cigar guy and swear lady, but

Post by olds442jetaway »

I should know by now not to play at the casino on a Saturday where the local weekend losers congregate. We were there overnight for the charity dinner so I thought I would play for an hour or so this afternoon. I saw the ponytail cigar guy who smokes cigars nonstop the size of telephone poles by staying up wind of him. Anything within 6 feet of him looks like you’re in the middle of a forest fire with of course a horrible smell. The swear lady had lost her last 20 and wandered away muttering to herself. Anytime she draws to a quad and loses, she goes on a non-stop swearing tirate for about 30 seconds before she deals her next hand. The one I couldn’t avoid takes the cake. I was already playing and fairly comfortable and a woman sits next to me who was clueless on video poker. She was FaceTimeing some guy on her iPhone and had the volume all the way up. It was ear piercing. He would try to tell her what to do on every hand and she would ask him why. I muttered a few comments to myself and to the nice lady playing to my right but the idiot that was face timing didn’t take the hint or didn’t care. I finally gave up and said to myself this time I really learned my lesson not to play at Mohegan sun On a Saturday afternoon. I would love to do a video called ....People of Casinos. It might even rival the infamous People of Walmart videos

You never know who will sit down next to you. My wife told me that years ago before we met she was playing VP and a former governor of AZ sat down at the machine next to her.

A video like that would be hilarious... button slappers, screen punchers, chain smokers, drunks and lots of profanity. People in need of a loan are my personal favorites. "I'm winning and will pay you back!" Right...

The last time we were in Vegas we were walking down a side walk and a young man was holding a sign that read "Please help, I need a hooker." You can't make this stuff up.

OLD"S i wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy, but i have a mute setting on my hearing aids, which takes care of most problems, except the smoke. My favorite quote on the smokers is "If i were King i would just shoot them all". Just a joke of course but sometimes.. :x :x :x

I would love to give the pony tail cigar guy a high end Havana except it would be an exploding one. As a matter of fact, I’m going on youtube right now and see if the Laurel and Hardy clip of that is there. Seems like I saw it at the movies back in like 1957 or so

has anyone seen the movie "run lola run"? theres a casino scene where everyone dresses in a dress code and gambles in a polite manner or just non offensive, the opposite of Old described.

i do watch youtube videos showing gaming houses in the 70s and 80s such as stacy knights were casinos really like that?
is there a casino much like that in the movie Run lola run?
if there is must be in europe maybe france?

I hate Saturday afternoon gambling too. It’s the universal Amateur Hour. The worst; avoid it. I try to ensure a 1 PM maximum finish. Then the obnoxious blowhards can take over for their weekly infestation.

I walked into my first casino back in the eighties. I didn't know what to expect. The lights and sounds were amazing. The only game I knew anything about was roulette. Pick a number, ball goes around, win or lose...pretty simple. I didn't know anything about odds, strategy, bankroll or W2-Gs. That night, I won $6,000 betting on the number seventeen by doubling my bet each time. I eventually gave it all back, but it was more fun than anything I had ever done before.

Since then, I have spent countless hours in casinos. Some of the things I have seen have been amazing. I once watched two huge security guards bodily carry an old lady out of the casino. She lost $100 in five minutes by playing $5 a hand when she thought she was playing quarters. Oops. She was mad as hell as she cursed the manager all the way out the door.

I've seen more than a few people sitting on the sidewalk with their hands tie wrapped behind their backs waiting for the police wagon. Don't know what they were up to.

I've seen a few fist fights. Alcohol and losing don't mix. Some cigar smokers light up to clear the seats around them. It works. Most younger cigar smokers don't realize they stink. I have found the best way to avoid trouble is to move.

Mentally troubled gamblers are all too common. Have you ever gambled next to someone with tourette syndrome? I've seen some who shout out profanity on every losing hand.

On my last trip to A/C, I couldn't believe the number of drunk kids in the casino bar. They were in their twenties and so drunk they could hardly stand. This wouldn't have been that uncommon, except it was 5:30 AM. What was I doing there? Playing video poker like a fool. Ridiculous.

Why do I put up with this? There is something about video poker that I can't ignore. It can't be winning, because whatever I win goes back in the machine. To me, it's the challenge. I don't win every day, but those days that I do are sooo sweet.

Back in the 70's & 80's furs and evening gowns, suits & ties, were very common especially at shows.
We did two shows a night on our first visit. After a show at Caesars, with a bottle of Champagne each plus two donated by non-drinkers, we took a cab to Bally's, where we were staying, and believe it or not the cabbie would not accept my money, and commended us for staying off the street. For those who don't know Vegas, they are only about 200 yards apart.

You're being nice and blaming it on a medical reason. It's really just bad manners.

Don't sit near me after a few hundreds down.
