There is order in chaos. Anyone who sits at a machine or even hops around will see both hot and cold streaks. I prefer to call them cycles because to the player, that is what they appear to be. Many times machine hopping can let one in on something unexpected. Last week I played joker kings and machine hopped around about 30 or so machines. I just happened to catch these 30 machines at the right time. My Mrs saw this too or she never would have believed it if she didn’t see it. I played each of these machines no more than 5 minutes. They were all in the same area and it was the middle of the night so it was easy to do. Every time I hit a quad or straight flush, I cashed out. I wish I had a video. I would say my play was about an hour and a half. When I was done I had recovered what I had lost earlier playing on one machine for hours. My Mrs. was playing in a different area at Foxwoods so I called her and said you have to come see this. She did. in hindsight, I wish I had taken a video. All 30 games had either a quad or straight flush on the screen since the last hand played. 5 of the 30 were straight flushes. I don’t care how many hours you put in on Joker Kings, but playing the same machine an hour and a half you are never going to see 25 quads and 5 straight flushes. On top of that, 3 of the quads and one of the straight flushes was dealt. Finally, in that same hour and a half I had 5 hands where only one card was needed for a royal and 36 times where 2 cards were needed for a royal without the joker. None connected not even for a wild one, but I have never come close to events like these playing the same machine for an hour and a half.

Unfortunately, it looks like hopping can produce bad results in the opposite direction as well. Last night I played those same machines no more than 5 minutes each or about 50 hands. So that would be about 2 /2 hours and 1,500 hands. That is a small sample, but of the 30 machines, not one hit a quad or straight flush playing all that time. Very unusual, but not as rare as the first experience.

I remember three times in my video poker life where I was able to directly profit from a machine hop. Two of those times, a player next to me hit a bunch of quads and left. I moved to their machine and hit a royal flush. One was for $4K (see below). The third time I did the same thing and hit 4 aces with a kicker for $1,000. What I don't remember is the possibly hundreds of times I did the same thing and lost. It's funny how we always remember when things go good and quickly forget when they don't.

When I see a streak like that today, I jump on it. Does it help me? Yes and No. What's the cost? Nothing. I see no harm in machine hoping. It makes me feel good. That's why I go to the casino in the first place.

reminds me of one of my past trips, was getting beat up pretty good one on machine down 200$ cold hard cash, i changed machines and received a royal on the re-draw, to my memory i did not hold anything just bam royal flush the cards were automaitcally held and i was paid out a sum of a 1,000$ not the first time has happened after playing as long as i do it does seem or feel like just long dice rolls coming out of machine thats played w/ cards instead of a wheel or dice

It sounds like you understand it just fine. Machines are not "hot" or "cold." It just just a function of your timing, like you said. Looking back, it is probably better to say "that was a cold session" rather than "that machine was cold."
Stanford Wong did say Streaks do exist he also said you dont know when one begins and one ends
imo i have to agree, everything is unknown until its known and suppose you had a time machine and you saw the out-come of a baccarat shoe one solid hour in advance before played which you could win alot of money, i am sure there is a formula of guessing right x amount of times but guess right or know right 60 times is completely different pass the number of a lotto winner, but ultimately as long as everything is unknown were gambling in the dark bet big win big, bet small win small all there is to it

Last year my wife was playing next to me and she was losing all day. It was about 3 PM and she wanted to leave and drive home. I asked her to wait a few minutes as I was winning. She sat back down at the same machine she had played all day and put in $20. She hit a royal flush for $1,000 on the first hand. I asked her how she would have felt if someone else had sat down and hit that royal in front of her? No answer, but I know she would not be happy. :x

Machine-Hopping, or hit&run, is like any other part of VP, it works when it works.
I agree with most comments about it, i tend to be a hopper myself.

However, would like to mention one other aspect to consider.
If you receive considerable comps, including premium play and bonuses, short sessions can possibly mean
a reduction in free play, that is definitely true where i play to the tune of $1-2000/month.
Check it out. We have been told that this kick-in-the-nuts is courtesy of a very widely used program used to scrutinize play. Added to the general dissing of VP players, this may be affecting your net ER.

The only reason I'll machine hop is for these.
