The Challenge

Post by FloridaPhil »

The Coronavirus is giving us an opportunity to take a break from casino gambling. The challenge is to see if anyone on this forum can live without gambling for a month. No on-line gambling for money is allowed. Playing online without money is. This challenge will be on the honor system, so we will have to have faith that our fellow members will tell the truth.

I receive royalty checks in the mail. It's a long story, but they come from something I developed about 20 years ago. I received a check on Friday. Normally, I take that money to the casino. Since the casino won't be getting my weekly donation, I am going to post that check on the wall in my office. Every week when I get the urge to blow it at the Hard Rock, I'm going to look at that growing stack of checks.

I may never go back in a casino, but I suspect I will some day. I'll post my progress and you post yours. If you want to play video poker against me, I'll be playing on this website under classic single line games. You have to be Gold to play against us. Who out there has the guts to take up this challenge?

Easy to say when the casinos are closed. We'll see what happens when they are open.

I wanted to reference 1908 Take Me Out To the Ballgame, Tin Pan Alley song. (Insert your own joke.)

Phil (a.k.a. Sky Masterson), what is your purpose and reason for this challenge? You say it is to see if anyone can live without gambling for a month but why are you limiting it to casino gambling? It would require an across the board (lottery, pull tabs, sports wagering, etc.) spectrum and not just casino gambling. Gambling is gambling and wagering is wagering. I could be rather philosophical and say that we gamble every time we go out our front doors (especially in the bad streets of Chicago) but I won't. I could be up though, for a dinner at your favorite restaurant that just happens to be in Havana.

By the way: you stated in a different forum that you were not a preacher.

I’ll take the peanuts and cracker jacks. Just pour me a beer while you are at it.

if someone wants/needs to quit gambling, why did one wait until a worldwide illness to be the reason to quit. the same holds true for those who drink too much, eat too much, over spend on junk, etc.

and, what is he going to do with that stockpile of checks he won't be donating to the indians. save it, he indicates he is well off. spend it on some other item? give it to his kids/grandkids, they may very well spend it on some other worthless item.

i gamble at the same casino he does, a place that has no positive games for the amount i am willingly to wager. no one likes to lose, but it is the reality for most all gamblers, through much of the country. i have come to accept this reality. it is my entertainment and entertainment costs money.

FP cannot seem to accept this reality.
