National coin shortage affecting Casinos

At least it is where I play at Mohegan Sun. The multi-purpose ticket redemption and ATM kiosks are rounding up your ticket to the next whole dollar amount. The coin shortage is due to supply chain disruptions blamed on the coronavirus. I am sure the casino will figure something out in short order to get around this like issuing a paper voucher for the change amount otherwise it could get quite expensive for them. I can’t see this lasting at the casino more than a couple of days at most. Otherwise people will take advantage of it to the disadvantage of the casino. A friend of mine went to our local bank the other day to get a roll of quarters. The bank would not give it to him citing supply problems.

the tampa casino's redemption machines have been issuing any amount less than $1, in ticket form, for some time.
as far as it costing the casino money, i think they make money on this procedure. when one redeems a ticket, the cash is dispensed and a couple moments later, a ticket for change is dispensed. guess how many folks forget to get the coin ticket or just don't bother. to redeem the change ticket, it must be taken to the cage. i use the odd coin tickets as tips, instead of dollars out of my pocket.
it is not unusual to see many of these small coin tickets left by the gaming machines and redemption machines, throughout the casino. i am confident these odd tickets, which the casino gathers up, add up to millions of dollars of extra profits.

Yes, Foxwoods uses this system as well. Here’s what I meant by costing them money if they don’t use the system you describe like Foxwoods. Conceivably, until Mohegan fixes the system they have, one could play all day at the casino for free. I’m sure some are already doing it. This is just one example. A player sits down at a quarter machine. He has 20 five dollar bills in his pocket or a hundred bucks. He puts in five bucks at a time. He plays a quarter bet on a Jacks or better machine. He loses three hands in a row. He cashes out a ticket for 4.25. The kiosk gives him a five dollar bill back. He does this all day and plays for free. Any winnings are pocketed at the expense of the casino. His own risk is zero. They can’t possibly let thus go on very long.

It is. I just can’t do it and take advantage of them when they are in a bind. Now if this goes on a while and I find they really don’t care I would certainly reconsider.

Local casinos here have not had coins dispensed from TITO machines for years. Same as Notes mentioned for Tampa. BTW, interesting article on the coin shortage.

I'm a bit surprised that some enterprising person wouldn't scoop up a collection of these, insert them into a machine, and then cash out a single ticket for over a dollar.

Some people may say that this is akin to vulturing Ultimate X multipliers.
