playing a weaker game for comps?

The lighter side... playing for entertainment, less concerned about "the math."

I'd be surprised if they accommodate your request since it goes against a casino's marketing strategy. They spread your free play out to "tempt/encourage you to come to the casino more frequently". The more often you come, the more they anticipate you will play (lose) thus increasing their profit. Besides play, you may eat at the restaurants, pay valet, tip waitresses, etc. Additionally, if you go each day and play only the free play your free play $ will decline since your average theoretical daily average will decline. So that $700 a month may decline to $300-$200 per month.

The really smart casino marketing departments also use anticipated hotel/gaming data to determine extra bonus free play. The Golden Nugget Lake Charles provides increased weekend bonus $$ when they see a potential drop in room registration/casino play potential. This usually comes in the form of an email or is posted on our individual accounts. For example, this coming weekend must be a slow weekend (this past weekend was a big promo weekend and Labor Day weekend will be huge). So this week our gang received an email update alerting us to an average of 30% increase in the Friday & Saturday bonus free play.
Wonder if they up that $$$ since Friday/Saturday the casino could possibly be flooded by Hurricanes Marco and Laura which are currently both headed right over Lake Charles. The last major hurricane flooding closed I-10 between Texas and La. for multiple days at the Sabine River border. This cost the casino's a ton of $$$.

I get 15 bucks 3 or 4 times a week and give them 2,000,000 coin in a year. My only consolation is they still have 99.54 quarter machines.
Hey Olds, you need to find better casinos. Lousy 99.54 pay return for $15 x 3 week. Come on down, GNLC gives me $140 week (Mon-Thur) + plus $140 Friday, Sat, and Sunday for playing their wonderful 97.5% return machines. Believe me we earn every $$ in free play on those machines.

I also agree with you if I had another cheaper form of entertainment other material items would be available. At this point and especially now (COVID) for us the 2 hour drive and a nice room for 2 days, free meals, and comps is still a perk and beats the cabin fever. At some point in life the body or mind or both will limit those opportunities. One of our early retirement goals was to travel, enjoy the first 10-15-20 years of retirement while our health was good and then reevaluate our options. Playing VP has helped pay for many a comped night and meals on trips around the US and Canada. And, often the casino rooms are as cheap and better quality as hotel rooms in some areas. So we can combine several of our pleasures.

I hear you Ll. Have my 96 year young dad in assisted living 5 minutes from my house, but between his medical, keeping him stocked in necessities, his finances, and in general making sure he is ok, that is almost a full time job that of course I am glad to do. I try to stay less than 2 hours from home and with covid, try and stay in Ct. Up until 4 years ago when I lost my dear mom, I had both of them in similar situations except my mom’s medical needs were even greater. Been like that since I retired 17 years ago. Luckily, I can escape usually late overnight to Mohegan Sun and haven’t had to pay for a room in 20 years. Well, I paid, but you know what I mean. The hardest part is only being able to get face time calls and the occasional outside visits due to covid since March. I am the only close by child , so of course it all falls on me, but I am blessed with good health so far. I am up at Mohegan now actually with the Mrs. No overnight tonight. Too many things to do tomorrow. Ahead 50 bucks. Should call it a night especially since the Mrs just hit Aces on DDB. You guys and the rest of the gang stay safe and well.

Olds,
I understand your situation. Sweet C and I took care of her mom for many years. She was independent but very limited physically. She passed away a year before my mom at 95. I lost my dad in 40 years ago and mom in 2017 at 96. Mom's last six months were a few miles from me in a nursing home. Daily visits and night time tuck ins sometimes to check on her. Luckily mom was in good shape most of those years and lived independently and drove until the last few years. She lived in an garage apartment at our old homestead with my brother and SIL in the house. Brother is a nurse so that helped and my older brother called several time every day to talk to her. Unfortunately, my older brother died a year later in an accidental drowning. Such a huge void in our lives.

Hit a few big ones.

BTW: Since UConn is leaving the AAC I probably won't be coming up for a game. Loved that area and we had to cancel our last trip up there against UCONN. We had planned to fly up that way, see the game and visit Mohegan and Foxwoods again. Had hoped we could meet up. If you ever get down this way let me know.

That’s an affirmative double L. I remember you posting stories a couple of years ago about your loved ones passing. Except when I was at UCONN, I never lived more than 3 miles from my parents. My wife and I and my parents were more like friends and we hung out together a lot to say the least. My parents were very young at heart. I think that is partly what kept him going all of these years even with serious illnesses that started when they were very young. I hope the storms don’t hit you guys too hard or at all. You have had your share of bad weather flooding etc. down there over the years. Once this virus is under control if you guys decide to come up this way anyhow, maybe to take in some of the fun things to do in Connecticut, just let me know. I can probably arrange accommodations at Mohegan sun similar to what I did when Mr. and Mrs. Florida Phil came up. Stay well and safe. Keep on hitting and posting. Breaks up my day to read everything. Funny, how some people who have never met, have similar worlds and so many things in common.

Haven’t done any tailgating in a number of years, but that doesn’t mean I can’t start again. Just took these boneless pork ribs off the grill. By the way, I grill for beer. Even one!!

Funny how I have not asked a host for anything in a number of years and in fact Mohegan sun has shyed away from assigning Hosts they just have a pool of Hosts. So after I read this post in particular what Billy wrote about what do you have to lose by asking, I decided to ask for the room which I still couldn’t get last night but I ended up getting a nice $75 dinner comp outof it. Guess I owe Billy a beer too. If anyone out there ever gets a host or someone at their casino to combine free play I would love to know about that I’m not even going to look into that for now. I just don’t think they would do it. Of course I could be wrong that’s for sure. They would probably say to me why would we do that you’re here overnight three nights a week and here during the day Most of the following days.

Olds,
Most of us have more in common than we have differences!

Laura-wise we are good. Our poor friends (we have many close friends-players and employees) in Lake Charles are in a life-threatening danger. We were lucky with this one. Interstate 10 will be closed for several days due to storm surge, flooding and debris clean up and probably some body recovery. After Ike, the debris on Hwy 73 (old I-10) was piled 6-8 feet on the roadway located 20 miles inshore. After the last hurricane to hit the same area it took days just to clean the debris from the roads and I-10 after flooding subsided. The I-10 bridge between TX and LA over the Sabine River border floods really badly. The last time it Sabine flooded it took 4 days to subside and all I-10 traffic was redirected up to 1-20 thru Shreveport and Dallas. Shreveport will catch a Cat 1 Laura which has I don't think has ever happened before. Anyone staying in this storm surge in a low area is probably committing suicide by choice or lack of ability to get out. There are a lot of hard headed people who live along those bayous and swamps. If they are in a 9-15' storm surge the house will be demolished even possibly on stilts.
