Looking for advice just starting Video Poker as side-hustle

The lighter side... playing for entertainment, less concerned about "the math."

$25 TDB should come with a warning label.

I hate any gimmick game. Too much trouble to learn and the variance is brutal. But they do help keep the games I do like on the floor.
TDB is a very high variance game, but it is not really a "gimmick" game.

TDB is not a gimmick game. 9/7 TDB is a very playable game with good points and bankroll. Not hard to learn. Variance is brutal on average, unimaginably painful during slumps...$25? I can not fathom the destruction possible. It has caused a cease and desist for me at 50 cents!

Actually, variance is what it is, slumps being part of the variance. What i meant was, the drought part of the variance can be especially brutal. And TTB is virtually unplayable on account of lousy paytables. I may have registered as Triple Triple, but VERY rarely play it.

TDB is not a gimmick game.
I usually associate gimmicks with extra-coin bets to enable multipliers or other enhancements.

You can really crank up your volatility by selecting TDB on a gimmick platform such as Ultimate X, although I guess most gimmicks are multi-line which smooths things out a little.

I agree with quit now. I have been trying to find a way to make money in the long run on video poker for almost 30 years and haven’t found it yet. If you find a casino That will give you enough free play, free rooms ,and food that is some consolation ,but it won’t build up your bank account. I have access to 99% games in Connecticut where I play. However, between fatigue, sticky buttons, making mistakes, making dumb decisions, and so forth my true return is about 98%. I run about $2 million through the machines a year so my loss is about $40,000 every year give or take. Some years it might only be 30,000 and some years it might be 60,000 not chump change by any means. I justify it by being able to stay in first class rooms almost whenever I want dine on them for the most part, and before the virus came around we would get tickets for shows free gas free gifts and other things that would make up for some of the loss but as a money maker to put cash in your pocket long-term I haven’t found a way to do it. Short term yes. Anything is possible even on the worst machines. Several years ago I hit for $36,000 in a 12 hour period. Unfortunately, it was all gone in a couple of months because the video poker machines went into ultra cold cycles. That’s what they do and they can be very lengthy. So if you’re going to play video poker for fun or recreation OK. As a money maker to have a nice paycheck week in and week out forget it. I would love to hear about it a year from now if you found a way to make it all work. Good luck and stay well.
I totally agree that the game should be treated as entertainment, not as an income benefit, this is not an option
