The Path - to Harrahs Joliet 10/10/20

The lighter side... playing for entertainment, less concerned about "the math."

Stuff machine until good stuff happens. Great concept if you can afford it.
This is called being sufficiently bankrolled. I have tried, to no avail, to get this point across.

FAA, I would also like to add that you and I play completely different games and this obviously has wildly varying results. The game you play, to me, has only 1 hand that is worth going after while the game I play has 3. You play single line while I prefer multi-hand, usually 10 play. This pans out for me when I am staring at a dealt straight, flush, or full house.

The downside to my play is that TDB is a game that is notorious for eating bankrolls if one of the premium hands isn't hit or enough smaller hits do not come in.

As I have stated before, I do not consider myself an "AP" nor a "Recreational" player but more of a hybrid. Some here are strictly one or the other. I go to a casino with the intent of winning money and I hope you also go for this same purpose. I do not disagree with those players who go for the entertainment value but if I want entertainment I'll go to a movie or a concert. Playing in a casino is mildly entertaining to me but it is not the reason why I go to a casino.

Comps are important to me and they do come into my calculation of play but I do not let it dictate my play. I only play for comps or giveaways when they suit me. Four Winds in New Buffalo, MI used to give out GREAT gifts but I haven't been there now for about 2 years. I stopped going there because they took out the 2 Dream Card machines that I used to enjoy playing.

This is enough sermon for now. I wish you well when you play and I do pull for you to hit that royal.

Yes. But it’s preaching to the plutocrats. Maybe if I cut trips by 67%!

I don’t have a knowledgeable game arsenal going for me. I pulled the plug on the “Comp” casinos; far too costly a proposition. I have been clinging to the 99% games. Even when the second best hand pans out it feels like a footnote. Probably means another three dud trips. I do go for entertainment given my frequency. So the most impactful strategy for me is to chop trips.

Of course, my primary trip motive is financial.

Ted-

Your MO and game choices are very much like mine, although I very rarely play as large as you sometimes do. Also tend to play higher bet single line than multi. Playing at certain levels, increase, decrease is a huge factor in how the session goes- of course it's the luck during those times really. At least recently, you have been fortunate hitting the best hands at the higher denoms. I tend to begin big the initial few hundred, then maybe back off until something significant. Then I will take whatever I'm ahead and go for it. If I fall well behind, I'll take a break until an hour or so before departure then finish last $500 at large denom. If I lose my 1-2k bankroll, c'est la vie...

What I avoid at all costs is playing large, then medium until almost broke, then playing quarters and hitting hands (or not) before leaving and still being down. What a drag.

Your 11/15 trip down $1100 before a big hit and this last trip about even I guess before the hand, but after much play. Illustrates perfectly the importance of bankroll and taking advantage of streaks. And even more so when on a bad streak- being able to continue betting at sufficient levels until when the next royal, etc. appears.

TL and TT, those are truly massive BRs. I am certainly not about to risk that kind of loot and roll with you big dogs. I’m basically dependent on that 2% of the pay table’s value to come in. If not, I will have to abide the losses. That said, I’d like to be more competitive on trips. A 50% BR bump appears in order. My funds were not really threatened in either casino yesterday. Sorry for derailing the thread.

FAA I only play with my gambling money and I don't play again until I've saved up enough to go. Saved up after bills are paid, I'm paid, etc. When I say I'm paid I mean taking "my pay" out of my paycheck and "my pay" goes onto investment vehicles and savings accounts. This means that I don't play with scared money. You know, those people in a casino who play trying to make up that months rent, mortgage, car payment, etc. I don't bet online and this includes sports betting. To me it is way too easy to get caught up in a huge trap.
