The Path - to Harrahs Joliet 10/10/20

The lighter side... playing for entertainment, less concerned about "the math."

FAA- Not massive, just relative. Perhaps a level above what you're used to, but much less than what some "AP" would stake. Or even Aunt Polly. If I were to bust entirely 4 or 5 times in a row, I would be halving that or halving the frequency of my trips.

I'm sure others will agree if you're playing $10 to 25 bucks a hand it is not difficult to find yourself down a thousand dollars in an hour or less depending on how fast you play. In my case, that's what's difficult. I like to accumulate points, get bonuses, keep up my ADT, etc. and do tend to play at a pretty good pace. But I would much rather play 200 hands an hour at $1 or 2 than 600 at quarters. And I would much rather get a good payoff for premium hands. There is no way I could play less than DDB- getting a kicker hand and not getting any premium would deflate me.

And therein lies the crux of the matter. I have developed tolerance. What used to be a thrill is just something necessary to go to the next level. No, I am not a candidate for 1-800-Gambler, I am being as deliberate, disciplined and patient as I can be to get there. I'm taking my best shot now, as Covid has opened up opportunities that were previously not there. And I sense both the imminent loss of decent paytables as well as my own mortality. How I bet and play is what I feel is best for me and my situation. You and everyone else have to conclude what is best for you.

As I have stated before, I do not consider myself an "AP" nor a "Recreational" player but more of a hybrid. Some here are strictly one or the other. I go to a casino with the intent of winning money and I hope you also go for this same purpose. I do not disagree with those players who go for the entertainment value but if I want entertainment I'll go to a movie or a concert. Playing in a casino is mildly entertaining to me but it is not the reason why I go to a casino.
First, WTG Ted. Secondly, regardless of whether you are a pro, semi-pro, AP, recreational player or some combination above, coming out financially ahead is always the goal. Everybody wants to win. The difference is the reason one plays VP. My primary objective, as I have posted elsewhere, is for entertainment, stress release, etc. I find going therapeutic at this point in my life. You have a different mindset as others may or may not. Whatever floats ones boat as long as it is done responsibly. BTW, glad you are fully over your Covid episode.

Thanks OTA for the well wishes. Just because I had the virus once does not mean I am immune from getting it again. Although the first 90 days after defeating it is the period where a person's chances of catching it again are at the lowest and after 90 days the odds go up, I stay vigilant with taking the proper protective measures.

You are one of the players here who I know play in casinos more for the entertainment value and I respect that. I don't criticize people for the purpose of why they play as ultimately that does not affect me at all. I took this same outlook several years ago when it came to giving playing advice in casinos to other players. I will not give unsolicited advice, I will only give advice of asked. And if I do give a suggestion as to how to play a hand I will tell the person that I am not responsible of my suggestion does not payoff.

Best of luck to you and please stay healthy.

What? Ameristar $1 ten-play is now 9/5? It used to be 9/6 - at least in the high limit room. They even have better if you look hard enough.

No online or sports betting, either. Their appeal is lost on me. A bit strange in a sports book, but it is what it is. Scared money as far as being too scared of the big L. I can maybe handle ten slow minutes of ten dollar hands. I’d really like to bump my Nets.

So I decided to pass on wildman's generous offer of heading to Michigan for some gaming and I decided to head to Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, IN.

I booked a room and made reservations at their steakhouse, "The Final Cut" as it had been a while since I had a good restaurant steak. More on the steak in a second.

After making the drive down I checked in a took a little nap. Once refreshed I headed over to the steakhouse with my lips smacking underneath my mask the entire way.

After sitting down I ordered a crab cake for an appetizer followed by a boneless ribeye (medium), a plain baked potato and some over roasted vegetables.

After waiting for what seemed like 30 minutes the crab cake arrived at my table VERY well done, the bottom was completely black and hard. I asked the server if he saw the movie "Jurassic Park," as I thought that the crab cake looked like something that the dinosaur that Sam Neil dug up crapped out. The server mentioned to me that he thought I might enjoy it anyway, laugh.... My main course arrived about 20 minutes after the crab cake. Looking forward to my steak (medium) after finishing off the baked potato, I cut into what was, a VERY well done steak. Geez, I thought, (that little voice in my head) maybe this is an omen and I should just go back to my room after I eat and call it a night. My entire meal was comped by the restaurant and I headed to the casino.

There was a VERY long line to get in but I was able to circumvent it (not listening to my previously mentioned little voice in my head) and I found a 3/5/10 play machine that had TDB. I sat down at the machine and managed to chew through a vary large portion of my bankroll playing 10 hands at .50 denom without hitting so much as a premium hand. I did manage at the very beginning to get up about $350.00.At one point I was dealt 4 to the royal from the left and I thought I was going to get dealt a royal but no, I wiffed on filling it in on all 10 hands. I was dealt trip aces and managed to connect the 4th ace on one hand without a kicker.

I was down $2,800.00 and I was going to call it quits when I caught AWAK at .25 denom. I quickly lost $500.00 back and I then called it a very sad night, having lost $2,300.00.

For some reason the drive back home today seemed so much l-o-n-g-e-r than the drive down yesterday.

Oh well, better luck next time and should have listened to that little voice in my head.
