Safety in casinos

Post by stephmo »

It has been 11 months since I have been in a casino. I have not had covid, and been extremely careful, but I am beginning to strongly desire a visit. I live on the East coast, and usually go to Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods. I was thinking about a mid week, one night, arriving mid afternoon, and leaving the next morning. Does anyone have an opinion on safety? Has anyone on this forum gotten Covid after a casino visit? No judgement , please, I just want opinions of those who have actually visited casinos. Thank you

We have been on a few occasions. Not so much lately. Most people wear masks and wear them properly but their are some that wear them as chin traps. At the casino we play at smoking is allowed. That may be the reason there were as many as there were that wore their masks as chin straps most of the time. There was not as much enforcement of proper mask wearing as we would have liked but your strategy of going midweek and avoiding crowds is a smart move on your part.

We were real careful. We wore double masks. A disposable covered up by a cloth one. We brought disinfectant to use after contact with anyone. Cocktail waitress, wipe buttons on machines, etc... We also wiped down the doorknobs, faucet handles, remotes, and even sprayed some disinfectant on the bed itself in or room and in general engaged in common sense behaviors. So far we are fine but have not been to a casino since Thanksgiving and are having a strong desire to make another visit as well.

I go to Mohegan Sun and they have done a good job with everything, but with the virus getting worse everywhere, I have cut way back and usually play in the middle of the night when it isn’t busy. It has been pretty busy there. Smoking is confined to outdoors which is great. If they go back to allowing indoor smoking, I am done with casinos. At 72, I shouldn’t be going at all with the Covid situation. I also stay away from indoor dining since that is maskless. People drop the mask to drink. Some leave it dropped. If I see that, I move or get security and they are good about enforcing proper mask wearing. People that refuse to wear the mask properly they warn then toss out.

Yes, but I rarely fit in with the consensus. I would rather play in a non-smoking casino with loosely enforced masks and distancing, than a smoking casino with rigorous enforcement. Nevada casinos (except Park MGM) are all smoking, with varying enforcement.

Prediction? Seems like the tribal category has been much more aggressive at banning smoking during the Covid era. I wonder if it's because they feel less competitive pressure. In a market such as Biloxi or Tunica, the competition may be across the street, whereas tribals are usually somewhat more isolated.

I was going regularly from October until Christmas eve for fairly short sessions to two Native American casinos in metro Phoenix. I felt safer at the casinos than at Costco. Enforcement of mask wearing with frequent loudspeaker reminders, complete smoking ban on the gaming floors, temperature checks and mask enforcement to enter. I would wipe down the VP machines with disinfectant wipes. Rarely saw any non-compliance. I stopped going because of several reasons not related to the safety measures in place. Did not catch Covid.

Yes in some cases, although generally I don't think they hired additional staff, so the original strict objectives were never realistic imo. Wipe downs are definitely more frequent now. At some places, the slot attendants and supervisors supplement the cleaning crew by carrying bottles of disinfectant.

Security is stretched also because of mask compliance monitoring and in some cases, temperature checks. As a result, I think they've cut back on other duties such as patrolling the parking areas.

They come by and wipe the machines down but not every time someone gets up they ask you to do it as a courtesy but of course you can’t trust the person before you do anything so you have to take care of it yourself. I think Mohegan sun is doing the best they can under the circumstances my biggest gripe is not enough enforcement on people that leave their big nose is sticking out they might as well not wear the mask at all. When I do get Security to take care of these people they will warn them once and if they do it again They may worn them twice if they catch them on the third time they toss them out but they don’t have enough people to take care of all of the nose jobs Sorry about all the screw ups in the above text I am using Siri as I am in the casino now my first and last Saturday visit just too busy

2 years ago i was playing upstairs at caesar's atlantic city and this older man stops by the machine next to me and starts playing.so while he is not hitting he is cursing the machine and even punched it,thank god nothing broke, and before he left he spit all over the screen and buttons.i called an attendant and told them about it and they got someone to clean it up but where was the "eye in the sky"?didn't they see this and if they did why didn't they report it?so,this is why i question if they are really wiping down the machines.

The eye in the sky records almost everything, but there isn't an army of people watching every inch of the casino. They can go back and look at things, but do not see everything live.
