Getting hard to find positive EV

Post by olds442jetaway »

Casinos at least where I play seem determined to eliminate any chance at a positive EV and at the same time ignore things like playing too fast, mistakes from poorly maintained machines, bad strategy decisions, and greed which results in wild mindless betting. That said, it looks like I am at the final Frontier of positive EV as the casino continues to bump up my coin requirements to do so. Below is the latest example based on a 99.54 JOB game with perfect play.....

Start with 99.54 return....... .9954 34,000 coin in in 24 hours gives 100 in free play plus 20 in everyday free play so that’s another............. .0035
....,,,,,,,,,,,,or 99.89 total

If I am smart enough to just
Go on maybe twice monthly triple
Status point days which I am not, I
Only need 11,333 in coin in to still
Get the 120 in free play. Which gives me .0106 instead of .0035 for a
Total of........1.006....

That is of course ignoring other freebies like free rooms, gifts, shows, and food. Guess I shouldn’t complain.

If it was easy, everyone would do it.

"Doing it" was referring to identifying and exploiting advantage plays. I seriously doubt that the players you're describing are doing that.

Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in Ct are borderline EV positive now. I don’t think you will find it even being close in Springfield MA at MGM and probably not Boston, Rhode Island, and nowgere in Ny that I know of. I would guess the same about Pennsylvania and Maryland. My recent first hand experience is only in Ct, so I am going by what other seasoned VP players are telling me.

You have to look outside the box.

Had a positive play at Borgata last Friday, however it worked out slightly negative for me. They had a 15x slot dollar promotion that is good on VP too. Base cashback appears to be .125% as best as I can tell. So a little under 2% CB plus comp dollars made it a good play. The promo started at 12 noon so I got there at 11 am to get one of the only 99.5% or better VP machines. Strategy was to play 99.69% SDB at .50 level till noon when promo kicked in, then go to dollar play. Wouldn't you know I hit Jacks, Queens and Kings in first hour at .50 for $300 apiece and am up $700 when promo starts. Think about stopping and taking the winnings, but know I have a positive play so I march on and things go cold and I lose the 700 plus another 200. Get 100 in cashback, so net-100. Oh well, I'd do it again.

That's a bummer CAR but if you left with the $700 the very next trip you might have lost it anyway so playing a good promo is always the play you have to play to keep you flyer free play coming.
