Acceptable Expected Return

Post by FAA »

What percent of expected return or value from a session allows you to leave the casino a gracious loser? I play 99.1% and 99.5% games. But if the session only allows me 97.2%, I'm at peace with the result. They gave me a fighting chance for the day. I guess that would make sense as about 2% of the EV comes from the elusive RF. So, you got what you could have expected and took your medicine.

You can be a gracious loser at any expected return if you are fully aware of what you are up against and accept or agree to the odds. In your example you are mixing expectation with results, which are rarely the same.

Really? You'd be fine with a 0% goose egg bust? There's a sporting chance and there's no chance in hell. Just don't steamroll me on the day. Give me some hope of at least breaking for most of a session. When there is no discernible ebb and flow, it's time to take business elsewhere. Which is fortunately a real option in AC.

The player has total control over this. Were you a gracious loser this past Sunday? Losing $650.00 while playing single line, mostly quarters, would not make me a gracious loser but merely a loser. A grumbling loser (at myself) and not grumbling at the casino.

Mostly dollar. You pay your money and take your chances. But when play is analogous to a mugging, it's a no play zone henceforth. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, well, that event will be moot.

Until after the last hand there is always a chance. At least with the game I play. If you can't handle being steamrolled you are in the wrong past time. C'mon. It's only money. And for full disclosure I said any expected return. I certainly don't expect 0%.

Nobody does. So when it actually happens with such unmitigated and merciless force, it's my last hand at the last Resorts. There was no hint of rhythm, barely any concession of so much as a full house. I'm sure we've all had dismal hours like this. But they were distant memories until this nightmare played out.

Let's all list those opportunities, shall we? I hope to recoup my loss on the next trip, but realistically it will take four. Even this assumes a ton of discipline. Casinos are not rational entertainment choices. We are overwhelmingly likely to lose, and depending on our actions, lose big. It's an addictive environment and activity.
