VP goals for the year

Post by TripleTriple »

So, what are your VP goals for 2022?

I'll start us off- my goal is to win back the money I lost in 2021, while playing much less.

That's it. I would say a dealt royal, but that is redundant.

Goals are only good if you have a plan for reaching that goal.

You can't really control the results of the game, but you can control whether or not you'll play on games where the house has an edge --- including slot club, mailers, comps, promotions, etc. If you insist on playing games less than this, your results will likely be negative again.

If you do limit yourself to good games, you may well have a losing year or two (2 out of my last 6 were negative), overall you'll make more in your winning years than you lose in your bad years.

If you take the attitude of "my casino only has bad games --- and I'm going to play them no matter what," I don't like your chances of having a profitable year.

My only goal concerning video poker is I want to play it in Deadwood. I've been meaning to get there for three years but stuff keeps getting in the way.

Hand pay. I must be more confident with promotions that push the 100%. I regret walking away last week when I was at 75% of the required Tier Credit earning quota. I could have lost $100 in the home stretch. But once at 75%, it’s the point of no return.

Playing within bankroll limits. Scared money is no money most times. Strive for an advantage, but if you can’t find one or choose not to take advantage of it, play small for fun.

To promo or not to promo. That is the question. My "Almost There" screen should read "Almost Bare." Reluctant promotion participants have good reason. They are likely to bust on them. You can lead a player to a promo, but you can't make him bet. The no fear crowd has a likelier chance of success. But the house always wins. I could lower my risk of ruin on trips with higher bankrolls, a.k.a. harder downfalls.

A welcome response from the legend himself- and in the Recreational Play forum no less- appreciated....

I do have a plan and I alluded to it. The dealt royal. With reliance on timely luck. Essentially zero chance I will recoup losses of 30k by grinding it out playing dollar vp unless I play high variance games with large jackpots. I choose 9/7 TDB Double Pay, the same game that I absorbed these losses on. The first year I was pretty much even, maybe a little ahead and my play earned me decent comps. 2021 was a complete disaster since I was diligent in playing at the same level dollars but having more frequent visits with longer sessions with very few hand-pays, which I played through. The majority of the time, my 10x rewards put me in positive territory, though there were some moderate negative expectations as well.

I made a fairly serious mistake in my calculations of what I could expect to lose since few people plan on having 12 or more losing sessions in a row (I think it was 13), and at the dollar level it bruised more than my ego. I refuse to play at a lower level as I wouldn't forgive myself to altering my plan in that way. My adjustment can only be less frequency with a loss limit to preserve bankroll. I took a huge gamble that I would be lucky sooner than later and that secondary jackpots would allow further play.

I'm looking at 3-5 trips this year (none yet) unless I come home ahead. It just hasn't worked out and I accept that. If only LL didn't "steal" my dealt...

I had a dealt redraw RF last year. What’s the big deal? $750. My short changing short changed me. They are some intriguing ways to achieve 99.9% or so. It seems to requires playing on their schedule and being a docile casino puppet. It’s pretty constraining for me. It will probably torpedo a break even or positive year. No free lunch. Earning credits is painful and unpredictable. I could bust by 35 or approach 200.

My only real goal is to just break even for the year. I'd consider that a great achievement. Last day of March and I'm still up several thousand so fingers crossed. Have a 4 day trip up to Buffalo, New York in 4 weeks and know I won't be able to avoid the casinos there but on my last 3 trips up there I had terrible luck. I don't know if their machines are tight or what but I just lost and lost and lost. Never even had a chance.
