Button Preferences

Post by FAA »

I had a session at Resorts AC today with the usual strong 8/5 BP. The buttons in the HL room are the weakness. I don’t like the rectangular buttons in plastic shells at all. They take forever to register a hold. The Bet One and Draw buttons have a similar tedious feel. Has anyone wrestled with such awful dinosaurs? Pressing is a real chore.
It’s the oldest casino in town and it shows. Even the ATMs are ancient. Two were out of order. I enjoy the northern boardwalk, but I’m reluctant to play there.

On buttons like that, I use the glass holds which are also unreliable and hard on your back. The worst scenario is when nothing lines up. Sometimes an attendant can fix it if you can find one. Sometimes the button covers are missing for the square plastic buttons. I made one at home, but I left it on a machine some time ago.

I did dabble with glass holds. It’s a hassle to keep extending your arm with that option. I very much enjoyed the room’s seclusion, segregated from the casino traffic flow. But I much prefer the common square buttons on most machines. Attendants can’t do anything about them. If I was a WD-40 expert, I’d give it a shot. But that is asking for trouble with security.
Speaking of attendants, two were standing in the room the entire time, poised to pounce into action. Talk about false hope. Nobody was winning anything. They may as well have been lounging in the sports book.

I use a fix for sticky buttons that works great. Mohegan Sun has alcohol dispensers and wipes everywhere. I just soak a wipe and let the alcohol dissolve the sticky mess below the button. Then I work the button up and down real fast. So far it has worked every time. Bartop buttons are the worst. So far it hasn’t shorted out anything either. Since many people wipe down their machines anyway, no security issues. I agree using the glass all the time is very uncomfortable. Those older machine are like Sherman tanks and the most trouble free. The new ones are cheaply made. Some of the machines I play are 30 or more years old.

AC used to have wipes dispensers everywhere. They sure vanished fast after Covid died down. Great idea to bring along a couple five pack wipe packets. I could use two per machine, screen and buttons. The Borgata bar tops I used to play must be in terrible shape by now.
The Resorts machines are definitely sturdy tanks. The ID number is hidden below at ground level, stamped on a gold plate. Rows of two, so only one person can sit next to you.

Great idea olds. I've never tried that.

I have trouble with the large flat buttons. But I especially dislike the round ones.

Fwiw, I've had issues playing slots on other manufacturers' games. Casinos are a harsh environment for machines, especially here in the Ashtray State.

I was not aware of the term "glass hold." I think I'll add it to my insult vocabulary. When someone comes back at me because I said they were an *** ****, I'll insist no, I called you a glass hold.

Opinions are like glass holds. And you have way more than you should.
