Multi-play Variance in VPW

Post by Dod35 »

I've been messing around with bankroll calculations in VPW quite a bit lately and have a question with respect to the std dev and variance used in the multi-play calculator. In the program, as the number of plays increase, the std dev and variance decrease on the screens. However, sites like wizard of odds, and others, indicate the std dev and variance should increase with the number of hands. Am I misunderstanding something in VPW? Thanks!

Example using 9/6 Job:

Singel-play both show std dev of 4.41 and var of 19.51
3-play: VPW std dev 2.80, var 7.82 - Wiz std dev 4.84, var 23.45
5-play: VPW std dev 2.34 var 5.46 - Wiz std dev 5.23, var 27.38
10-play: VPW std dev 1.93, var 3.72 - Wiz std dev 6.10, var 37.21

Divide Wiz variance by number of hands to get VPW variance.

Variance in number of coins goes up as number of hands go up, but not so fast as the number of hands increase.

If you bet same number of $ per play on multi hand as you do on single hand, variance for multi hand is lower.
