Learning Multiple Games

For my first year of my video poker adventure I did nothing but grind Full Pay Deuces wild. It was the only game I was playing, and I was constantly studying and practicing. I was able to play very fast and accurate by the end of the year.

Then I found more opportunities that I wanted to take, but it required me learning JoB and Bonus Poker. I started to learn JoB and after studying and playing JoB for a few weeks I went back to FPDW and my speed and accuracy was greatly diminished. I was confusing the two games and making mistakes. This caused my confidence level to go way down and slowed my speed down as a result.

I was also finding more and more opportunities in deuces wild and JoB, but at many different paytables. I realized the importance of knowing NSUD for high limit, and 7/5 BP for progressives. I started to study the different paytables and it was confusing me even more. However, my friends kept telling me as you study more it will get easier so I am doing just that. I am going to try and get sharp at the following games: 9/6 JoB, 8/5 BP, FPDW and NSUD.

Do any of y'all have tips or strategy advice for attacking multiple games? How do you stop from getting mixed up? What is the best way to practice multiple games and stay sharp on 2-3 games at a time? My FPDW game is still not what it was when it was the only game I knew and studied, but I hope that I can get it back.

I ran into the same problem being a Jack’s a better player to NSUD. I guess if you already know the game you were going to play on your trip you could practice a lot more the night before to get your brain back into swing.

In the book more sex lies and VideoPoker the main character ran into a similar situation I believe. what they did was they set VideoPoker for winners to auto play and auto hold and just watch the screen for a while... you could try just watching the game play to get your mindset back into it and then physically practice

Probably one of my bigger faults when I drink while playing. I'll forget I'll playing deuces because of a wild card/made hand drought and I'll hold a high card. I only play deuces about 10% of the time.

Switching games is never easy. For some reason I seem to do better switching between deuces wild and quad games. I guess it's because the strategy is so different. What's hard for me is to switch between similar games like Jacks and DDB or small pay table changes. If AP's do this accurately, they must have brains like a super computer.

Why don't you keep NSU deuces and pick one other common game to learn like Jacks? Playing two dissimilar games right would be easier than learned them all. Never drink and play VP for money at the same time.

It's not a super brain. When you change, pause, read the payouts and have a plan as to what is important in this game.

You are right. If I had as much riding on my VP as I have on my investments, I would make the effort. Still, it would be very difficult to switch games and play 100% accurately all the time.

Why don't you keep NSU deuces and pick one other common game to learn like Jacks? Playing two dissimilar games right would be easier than learned them all. Never drink and play VP for money at the same time.

I have to agree with Phil, Just pick 2 games and get really good at them. I do 9/6 Jacks and NSUD and stick to that with a whole lot of practice. Then when you are heading to the casino, say the night before you go do a 1 hour practice on the game you are going to play the next day. Since it's your first year playing one game at a time per year would be the real way to go.
