Will this be another Boyd brouhaha?

Post by DougJ »

Penn Gaming (M Resort and Tropicana, here in Vegas) emailed me yesterday. Here is an excerpt:

"Exciting changes are coming in 2019 and we want to ensure you have the best chance to reap all the benefits. We’re happy to announce that our new loyalty program will have a 12 month renewal period. That means that the tier status you are earning now will be your tier all the way through March 2020! You'll have more time to take advantage of exclusive benefits, comps and partner experiences.

To lock in your Icon status through March 2020, make sure you hit 400,000 tier points by December 31, 2018.

You’ll hear more details about exciting changes in the coming months – stay tuned for updates!"

The prior day, Monday of this week, Penn Gaming announced it was buying Pinnacle (Ameristar),pending regulatory approval.
It is my understanding that Marquee Rewards will become "my choice" rewards instead. Marquee has four levels, my choice has five tier levels.

Of course, details are "exciting" but who ever heard of a gaming group (hey, looking at you Boyd!!) announcing changes that benefited anyone other than the gaming group. We will see how this devolves.

I share your concern. Almost without exception, player's club changes are not good for the players.

I believe it was about a year ago, Ameristar Casinos got split between Boyd and Penn.

Boyd got the casinos down in the St. Louis area (St. Charles, Missouri). Upper midwest, we are seeing East Chicago Ameristar location becoming Penn. Wasn't sure which way things would change with the comps and rewards but I got something emailed that said for Hollywood Casinos, we will have their rewards (Marquee Rewards) til the middle of the year then they will change to My Choice which was the Pinnacle Rewards.

It's hard to say, while I get alot of comp money to play off My Choice, I was shocked to see Penn change their rewards to Pinnacle and not the other way around.

Agreed, I thought my choice would be absorbed into Marquee rewards.

I was advised by a Penn host to use up any comp dollars before the end of this year, even though it will still be Marquee Rewards until June 30 of next year.

A little more information now. Qualification for tiers is lower . . . ICON is half the tier points it is now. Executive Producer is 60% less.

Oh, not so fast, partner . . . It will now take $10 in coin in on V.P. to earn ONE tier point. So, if ICON is now 200,000, instead of currently 400,000 . . . well, no happy dance here.

No word yet on whether M's "good VP games" will earn anything at all, a la Boyd.
I also don't think you can redeem your points for cash any more. . .

Meanwhile, I got my January mailer . . . no free food, and free play is 1/3 of what it was this month.

This would be a major disappointment. There does not appear to be anything about that in the stuff I've received from them. Where did you get that information?

That "exciting change" was shared by my host, who is also the same person who advised me to use up all of my comp dollars before Jan. 2nd.
The host said that current my choice properties don't allow cash back for points, so maybe it's correct, I suppose we wait and see.

Strange that my January mailer was so pitiful . . . I actually played more at M this December than normal, it was bordering on "degenerate" mode, but I also won quite a bit this month, so maybe it's just Penn's marketing math----you win, no free stuff for you. ????
