Dinner spots

Post by Carcounter »

Had dinner at Cafe 2825 recently. Was named best restaurant in America on Open Table back in 2014. What? Hard to get a reservation and always named one of if not the best restaurant in AC. Thought it was good, but over rated. Very small martinis. Personally the Knife and Fork and Docks Oyster House are my favorites. Maybe I'm just not sophisticated enough to appreciate 2825. Certainly possible for a kid from the projects. Anybody been there?

I wasn't impressed with the Knife and Fork when I ate there. It had been closed so when it reopened in 99 or so, it was a big deal. Had lunch and it seemed like everybody who was anyone was there seeing and being seen. Food was okay, but the bill was the size of Texas. Anyone who can could con the powers that be into spending $17.77 for a salad wedge in 1999 is a genius ,in my book.

Knife and Fork and Docks Oyster House are two of my favorites too. The wedge salad is currently $8.
Cafe 2825 and Chef Vola are both over hyped and over priced good Italian restaurants.

Is the Docks in AC related to the NYC one?
There was a great Italian place on a side street right off the main street. I can't place it exactly, as it's been maybe 20 years. I recall it was by a casino bus station, so Im guessing it was around Caesar's. Not a pizza joint, but not super fancy either.

Don't think the AC Docks and NYC Docks are owned by the same people. The people who own Docks in AC also own Knife and Fork and Harry's Oyster Bar in Bally's (or Caesars-never been there). Knife and Fork is open for lunch on Fridays- not on other weekdays. Have 3 course lunch special for $ 17.99 that is the only meal you will need for the day. Bill, it's still the place for the power brokers to go to on Friday for lunch. The Bar is always standing room.

Car is correct, all 3 owned by the same family. The buck a shuck Oysters @ Happy Hour @ Harry’s is incredible.

just saw the picture of one of my favorites, oysters.

i am by no means a foodie, but thought i would mention that at the tampa hard rock, they have what i think is one of the best buffets i have been to for a price of $29.95. and, if you have 'elite' status, which i do and is not that hard to attain, the price is $10 in comp dollars. you are allowed to bring one guest for an additional $10 comp dollars. the saturday and sunday champagne brunch costs $5 more in cash, but still the same price ($10) in comp dollars, for elite status. the wife and i go often for a total of $20 comp dollars.

i have nothing against young children, but i will not eat at any buffet where there is a large number of kids. because tampa is populated by old folks, like myself, this is not a problem. very clean, large selection of food stations, including a center grill section, where i can get salmon, cooked to order. also, a large fresh seafood station, including oysters, mussels, shrimp, clams, etc. the full menu is available on the web site.

thought this might be of interest for those who are escaping the cold, looking for a place to lose their money gambling and were interested in the food opportunities.
