Caesars Southern Indiana

Post by updog037 »

Has anyone visited the new Caesars (formerly Horseshoe) Southern Indiana and have any thoughts on it? They opened the new casino mid-December and I went the weekend between Christmas and New Years. I've been going to the old riverboat there for over 10 years. It's always been one of my favorites so I was really looking forward to the new land-based casino, but was somewhat underwhelmed by the experience.
First, to me at least, the new layout doesn't have a good flow to it making some of the games difficult to find and some areas feel overly crowded. Additionally, much of the staff seemed to be frenzied as if they'd never worked in a busy casino before, seemingly 1 out of every 4 or 5 machines was tagged as out of service, and they completely ran out of Miller Lite and Coors Light. Maybe these are just some kinks to work out with a new facility rather than being indicative of how it's always going to be, at least I hope. Lastly since they took out some of the dining options, Jack Binion Steak is now the only true sit-down restaurant available making it much busier than normal though their food quality remains excellent.
While I was kind of on the fence about whether or not to go back, thanks to receiving some very generous offers for February I think I'm going to give it one more chance to see if my opinion changes.
Anyone else have experiences/thoughts on the place to share?

I will be there mid February for a night on my way to Arizona to wait out the winter. I went to the old riverboat many times but it did not really excite me. Looking forward to seeing what the new place looks like.

So you are coming for either the Phoenix Open or spring training. :) Temperature highs this weekend in metro Phoenix are forecast to be in the mid-70s.

We come to Arizona for the sunshine and the low humidity. We rotate between Florida and Arizona. Both great winter destinations!

My feelings are much the same as updogs. The casino is just a big room with machines and tables in it. Binion’s is good but the only other dining options are like a Mall food court with high prices and mediocre food. No enforcement of nonsmoking areas which are not well separated from the smoking areas. A fairly large number of VP machines but little variety, mostly Game King single play.
Poor pay tables 6\5 Bonus Poker and mostly 8/5 DDB. Finally, the flood shakes which is quite off putting.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit.
