Depending on the paytables, $15 in free play makes many game a positive EV if you limit your play.
$1,250 cycled thru a 99% machine should cost you $12.50 so $15 freeplay allows you to play a thousand hands with plus EV. In the 20% chance you get the larger amount, you can play 2,000 hands with a + EV.

The free play stacks the game in your favor. It has nothing to do with the one in five chance of getting double your freeplay.

What of the people playing 97%? I take the "stacked in favor" as the chance to double the FP. In practice I am 1 for 3 so I am underperforming (or am I overperforming?). Worse yet, my recent 2-5X multiplier was a 2X...but while they were nickel & diming me, I was 1K and 4K'ing them.
