Re: May 2020 Monthly Contest - Forum Participation Edition
Bill, if you review "The Challenge," you will see that while Phil started the thread, "the Challenge" by Phil was "to see if anyone on this forum can live without gambling for a month." Actually, olds442jetaway should get partial credit for proposing an additional contest. He was the first to mention that in the thread. In another thread ("Chase the royal or keep the flush?") you may recall that onemoretry pointed out that Phil was confused about the difference between contests and going for a daily high score. Phil's saving-face remark after proposing his strategy for winning contests was that he never played the contests. Perhaps that's why he didn't sign up for the April contest.

My whole point was that his challenge topic got the ball rolling. I could care less whether he joins or not. I don't know him, never have had any conversations, exchanges etc.with him other than commenting on each other's posts. Maybe I should have said anyone who is or was a forum participant who, for whatever reason, is not allowed or for any other reason prevented from posting in this topic be given the opportunity to participate. Come to think about it, that would include DaBurglar and possibly others.New2vp wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 9:07 pmBill, if you review "The Challenge," you will see that while Phil started the thread, "the Challenge" by Phil was "to see if anyone on this forum can live without gambling for a month." Hmm. I thought part of your point was that Webman should exclude those with limited previous posts. And that Phil should not be excluded because he started a thread lecturing others to stop gambling in casinos and once again railing against the experts who suggest that players will likely lose if they gamble without an edge. I have no problem with you expressing your opinion. Or wanting different people to be included or excluded than ultimately sign up per Webman's guidelines.
You didn't know why Phil neglected to sign up for the April contest. I don't know either but offered one theory. I have no issue with you if you don't like my hypothesis. I am in agreement with you. I would rather that fewer names that I don't recognize would sign up while more names that I do actually sign up. No harm done or malice intended either way.
Good luck in the contest. I'm hoping you pull out a victory. And if not you, some other frequent poster.

To all those new to the forum who are participating, please take some time this month to explore the rest of the forum and help us get to know you by responding to some of the topics and sharing your experiences/history playing video poker.
As others have pointed out, the purpose of this contest is some friendly competition among familiar faces. New players are welcome as well, but we'd like to get to know you in the process.
Simply posting things like "I agree" or "I like toast" will not really fulfill that intent.
I will now amend the contest rules slightly to better reflect this.

We are in essence in agreement. The first point about folks with limited participation prior to the contest is correct. I nevertheless agreed with Webman's decision to allow the posts to occur prior to the end of the contest. I never said FP's challenge had to do with the inception of the contest, merely that his topic led to its initiation. One misworded comment may have caused the confusion. I ended one comment by saying "as this contest would not exist without his original challenge". I meant to say his original challenge topic. Anyways, good luck New2vp. I am enjoying playing with no expectation of winning.New2vp wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 4:07 amHmm. I thought part of your point was that Webman should exclude those with limited previous posts. Alright, I'm going to let binoy sneak in on account of being a member for 14 years and the fact that no scores have been posted yet. But registration is now closed. I will try to post the first leaderboard standings tonight or early tomorrow. If people have not yet met all of the qualifications that will be noted.
