PPP is Vegas bound!

Post by pokerpokerpoker »

It won't be long now! It is that time again for my yearly trip to Vegas. As usual, my 80 year old Dad and my best friend of 30+ years will be joining me.

One of the perks of getting the premier card at a local casino is getting 3 "free" nights along with $100 in FP and a $150 resort credit. I selected the Mirage. After a few fees and taxes, the hotel bill will be $86 - a good deal.

As far as gambling goes I plan to hit the .50 9/6 DDB at Ti, the BPDLX DSTP at Aria and the Wheel Poker QQ at the Mirage - which has a poor return, but is one my favorite games. Also, we plan on hopping the bus to Downtown for an afternoon or two, hoping to generate some teaser offers for future trips while playing generally better odds.

Gambling in Vegas has always been a bit of a conundrum for me. I like high variance games for dollars, and locally I can play them for a short session, but there is no way I can play them for 3 days straight. Above all, I don't want to be hitting ATM machines and I don't want to fart around on nickels either. Because our comp package isn't tied to Mlife play, I feel no real obligation/need to give them much play. Our usual home base is Ti, but this years offers weren't that good.

For eating I hope to try out the new In and Out burger at the Linq. Our Resort credit will cover one dinner at the buffet (which I find to be excellent) and one breakfast. Horses!!t Hammond gave me 4000 RC for some reason which will cover my "splurge" dinner at Bachannal, which I greatly enjoyed last year.

Not a big drinker, mostly Jack on the rocks and IPA (thanks Vman), but am hoping to try some of the fancy cocktails at Cosmo and maybe start a presence there. Bar paytables are probably poor, but will suck it up in exchange for high-falutin booze.

Any decent plays around center strip I am missing? Anyone have a new user Lyft promo code?

Best of luck to you and your travelmates on your trip PPP.

I've thought about trying In and Out Burger when I'm in town but for some reason I need to have Jack in the Box once before I leave town.

Again; best of luck to you. Don't forget about Uber for your travel needs while you're there.

If you could find a way to make the trek to the South Point, you would be able to play Wheel Poker with QQ with good pay tables.

Uber for sure. Last year we started using them and will not use cabs anymore. Uber was cheaper with cleaner cars and friendlier drivers.

Good tip about the SP. Unfortunately, it is a haul and any extra EV will be mostly negated by the cost of getting there. I think the WPwQQ at the Mirage is 8/5 DDB for quarters.

As of late the Vegas strip casinos are striking partnerships with smaller outside casinos, so these opportunities are there. The $86 comes in the form of resort fees despite the "free" package. As a heads up, the food is so overpriced on the Strip to a point where the $150 Resort Credit does not feel like much.

In-N-Out Burger is a California treat that is a must try for outsiders. The one on Dean Martin Avenue was not as good as I am accustomed to the two times I've tried it. Hope that the high traffic of people does not degrade the quality. I think they did this to compete against Shake Shack and Whitecastle.

Good gambling choices planned out for yourself, especially the 8/6 Boner Deluxe quarter Double STP at the Aria which is the best kept video poker secret on the strip. I establish casino credit with the casino I plan on visiting to, as I need $3300 to make it through $25k worth of Jacks or Better with near 0% risk of ruin to get Sapphire at BConnected or Pearl at MLife (if I need to).

Bachannal is only an excellent buffet if you are able to eat the premium entrees such as the crab legs, ribeye steak, or sea bass. I think you will need more than 4000 RC ($40) per person if you go there anytime other than weekday lunch. The lines are about more than an hour long if you do not have Diamond or Seven Stars status with Total Rewards.

The Cosmo from what I see is the dream I would personally want to pursue. Their slot director Mr. Sweet is probably one of the best in Vegas in my own opinion and has really sparked a big turnaround there. I am not ready to commit two $60k trips per year to Vegas any time soon.

Good luck and have fun.

Call me old fashioned but I still enjoy the Carnival World Buffet at Rio. IMO, their seafood buffet is overrated.

I've probably passed the In-N-Out Burger on Dean Martin Drive about 100 times but for some reason the Jack in the Box Sourdough Bacon Cheeseburger has an extra strong hold on me that I cannot shake (shack).

Again, good luck to on your trip PPP.

Word has it that the Carnival World Buffet was at its best when the Rio was operated by the Marnell Gaming.

The place has been degrading over time under Caesars Entertainment. It is best known for the WSOP.

I still thought it was decent the one time I had it couple of years ago, but I still would not pay $33 for it during lunch.

Yeah, Bachannal is like $55, so the 4000rc and whatever I earn during the trip will cover most of it. I agree, Strip food is horribly overpriced. $22 for a breakfast buffet? I can't come close to eating $22 worth of bacon and eggs. 15 or so years ago ate at the Rio buffet and it was superb. I remember getting lost on my way back to the table.

Actually, the hotel tab is $86 because for some reason the first 2 nights were available on the offer; but the third night was ineligible - only casino rate of $45 plus $32 resort fee plus tax. Can't complain though as my other options were 3 nights at the Plaza with $75 FP or 2 comp nights at Ti with $50FP and rack rate for the third night. I hit up the Plaza for their $500 loss rebate last year - generating a little mail. I heard that promo has been cancelled though. They also had the tax day promo when I was there.

In and Out needs to compete with White Castle? Actually, WC sounds kind of tasty right now. Time for a little "spring cleaning". Wife and son are away, so I don't need to worry about being banished to the couch.

Good tip about the SP. Unfortunately, it is a haul and any extra EV will be mostly negated by the cost of getting there. I think the WPwQQ at the Mirage is 8/5 DDB for quarters. My first thought was that you're absolutely right. Then, I thought about it some more, and concluded that that you could make a case for taking the trip if you were planning on, say, $10000 of play. The game at SP is 9/6 DDB, so you're giving up about 2.2% of EV, i.e., $220 on $10000 of play.

Anyways, I'm sure there are many other considerations to take into account, and I'm certainly not trying to sell the idea.

That game is definitely a lot of fun to play, especially when you're getting lots of wheel spins. We normally play it at 5 line quarters - getting a dealt QQ or normal quad is extremely exciting.
