We always take Carefree Highway/SR74 and US 93 to Vegas when we go. Haven't gone in almost two years due to illness. Last time we went a good portion has been widened to 4 lanes and construction was underway on I-11 which eventually will replace part of 93 and link Phoenix and Vegas. BR I'm sure can provide an update. I agree with Billy that it is a a nice drive on 74/Carefree and 93. The widening has cut out some dangerous sections of 93.Carcounter wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 12:33 pmI have relatives in Phoenix and know Carefree Highway well. Rt 74 if I remember. Bill, did the state of Arizona ever widen Rt 93 up to I-40 or is it still one lane in each direction?billryan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 11:15 pmAs gamblers, we get used to the perks, and take them for granted. I just stayed two nights in Bisbee in a room that was maybe 12 by 15, $121 a night plus taxes and fees. $288 for the stay. $59 for a Motel 6 on the way there and $105 to stay in a vintage trailer in Carefree on the way back. First time in a while I paid for rooms anywhere.
By the way, the Carefree Highway is one of the most beautiful roads I've had the pleasure to drive. If you are ever driving from Vegas to Phoenix, or vice versa, it's a little out of the way distance wise but can save substantial time during commuting hour. It's little wonder it inspired the song of the same name.

I know the song well but did not know the road actually existed. I learned something today!

Rt 93 was dangerous, but did cut serious time off the trip from Phoenix as compared to taking I-17 and I-40. Always knew the state of Arizona would have to do something about it.

It was my first time on that section of 93. Most of it is two lanes in each direction now, but construction is still ongoing, so in a few spots, the NB lanes were closed and it was one lane in each direction on the SB lanes. I read they are building a bypass around Wickenburg but didn't notice anything. I saw a few signs indicating the road was part of the 11 corridor but am not sure where that will end up.

We just flew spirit last week, we were a bit delayed because a woman briefly fainted on the plane likely due to anxiety and they called paramedics out of precaution, but other than that, the flight went pretty well!case wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 7:27 pmHi Jojo. We pay for our fights but if you are on Spirits email list they send all kinds of special deals on flights. Just today they sent me an 85% off. However it has to be booked today. I am retired so I can take advantage of these deals and I use these deals all the time. Todays deal will fly me direct from Detroit to Vegas and return Vegas to Detroit direct as well. The cost would be 130 dollars return plus luggage if you have any.
I will be there April 20-27 on a deal I booked for under 200. Again I am in a couple tournaments and free rooms. Life is good!

Just looked I-11 up on Wikapedia. A good thing to do. Phoenix and Las Vegas are the largest 2 cities taht do not have a direct Interstate link between them. About time.

Absolutely needed. Eventually I-11 will span from Mexico to Canada, and will be one of the busiest north-south routes in the west. Hopefully, some of us will be alive for its completion.

Drove to Vegas a week ago Thursday from Sun City. It took us a little less than 4 hours to Treasure Island. The midweek drive is a piece of cake as you avoid the Friday night crowd racing to Vegas and Laughlin. Laughlin is an hour closer. Plenty of passing lanes and divided highway that as mentioned will one day become I-11. Saw two semi's laying on their sides on the way back. There is now a bypass around Boulder City across the relatively new Pat Tillman Bridge that takes you to the Railroad Pass Casino and hooks up to the 215. From there it's a easy drive to Henderson, the strip, and downtown. A word of caution, when making the drive through Wickenburg, and Wikiup, obey the speed limits. The Highway Patrol is more than happy to relieve you of some of your bankroll. If I get some time, I'll try and write about the highlights and lowlights of our latest trip.

I wonder how Boulder City is doing now that 90% of the Dam traffic is bypassing it entirely. Or the helicopter tours by the hotel? It's a quirky little city I wouldn't mind living in if prices get sane. I love those old construction bungalows, but not at $400,000 plus.
