On the first Friday in May, my wife and I went to Greektown, our favorite casino in Detroit. My wife likes to play the Deuces Bonus progressive, and she jumped onto it right away. The progressive was nearing the $1,200 mark. I stood behind her to watch, as the other 7 seats in the bank of machines were all full. A short time later, a woman three seats down from my wife hit the royal in clubs. There was much hooting and hollering, and the attendants (they hand-pay that royal, no matter the amount) were there quickly to identify the winner. Of course, the rest of the bank of machines cleared out immediately. The royal didn't faze my wife, though, and she continued to play. I decided, on a whim, to sit down next to her. While the attendants were still there, I held 3 face card hearts, and sure enough, it filled in – I got a royal, too! The jackpot wasn't even up to $1,003 yet. The attendants were still busy with the first royal, and asked me to wait a bit while they finish the paperwork. As they turn their attention to me, the original woman moves to the machine next to her winner, and starts playing, to keep busy until they come back with her money. Not more than 2 minutes later, she hits ANOTHER royal! This one's also in clubs, and it didn't even pay $1,001! I know they say the odds are that you can hit a royal at any time, but I know I've never seen three of them showing on the same bank of machines at once...all hit in less than 5 minutes. Based on the number of Greektown employees who came by just to see it, I don't think they've ever seen anything like it either.
