This Month's Kicker

On February 14th, 1992 I was at a convention in Las Vegas, however being from Phoenix, I would either fly to Las Vegas or to Laughlin 3 times a month. My meetings had finished around 2 A.M. in the morning, and I was on my way back to my room at Harrahs. I thought I would unwind after a very good day, with a night ending cocktail, and play my favorite machine in Harrahs. So I bought a rack ($100.00) and ordered a cocktail. At 2 to 3 in the morning on a week day, there were very few players in the Hotel, so when my cocktail waitress finally brought my cocktail, I was just about to put a hold on 3 aces, 2 reds and the ace of clubs. As I stood up to give the waitress, I accidentally hit deal, BEFORE I HAD PUT A HOLD ON THE 3 ACES. The first card out was the ace of spades, and I was sick, until I notice the lights lighting up, and was shocked to see the ace followed by the jack, 10, king and queen of spades. What a SHOCK, BUT, it only gets better. I had to wait about 15 minutes for Casino personal to arrive, and of course I had to give ID and Social Security, and back then, they didn't clear the machine until you were paid, and then they ask to play it off. While this was going on, I knew there would be a slight wait, so I ordered another cocktail, and another rack of chips. They arrived at almost the same time, and because I had $4,000.00 coming ONLY because of a stupid error on my part, I gave my cocktail waitress a $100.00 tip. This is going to be hard to believe, but on the 3rd hand on the machine next to my Royal, I was dealt The Ace , blank, blank, King & Queen of spades. I kept the 3, and caught the jack & 10 of spades. Now I know you readers will probably not believe it, especially with the odds of hitting a royal over 2,580,000, not to mention what those odds would be for side by side machines in the same suit and same order. Next morning on my way to breakfast both machines were closed down.....AHH, the "Good Old days". By the way I still have both tax forms framed and hanging on my office wall, with a picture with my FAVORITE Cocktail waitress.
