smoking ban in AC may be delayed
I heard that the smoking ban due to begin on Oct 15 may be delayed because of economic problems. Does anyone out there have any further info?

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — With the economy crumbling and revenues
plunging, the city may put off the Oct. 15 start of a blanket ban on
smoking in casinos to avoid further losses. The ban, opposed by
casino owners but supported by workers, was approved in April before
Wall Street melted down. The City Council is scheduled Wednesday to
consider a delay."Smoking is not healthy. Smoking kills people,"
said Bob McDevitt, president of the city's largest casino workers
union, Unite-Here Local 54. "So does job loss, unemployment and the
threat of foreclosure. People will lose their ability to feed their
families."Click the link above for the full article.

Todays LVA has a tidbit, AC casinos will have a one week ban of casino smoking until city council can re-vote on the 22nd. Harrahs will enforce no smoking policy and confine smokers to ventilated smoking rooms. So at least from the 15th to the 22nd Stephmo.

Scorpio, not sure about your neck of the woods but every time I visit a casino, guaranteed I see at least one elder with an oxygen bottle either carted or strapped to their wheelchair. Some of them enjoy gaming so much that they'd risk further health damage to play. Can't comprehend why they wouldn't use the non-smoking areas provided. Sometimes, as Shadow previously noted, the paytables aren't as good in the non-smoking room. Even if I didn't smoke, I would still go and think it's unfair unless the smoker is inconsiderate.

Bad as it sounds, wouldn't it just be easier to light up and smoke til they tell you to extinguish it? My buddy did that and casino security walked past as though they were oblivious to it and no, we weren't in a gaming area of the casino. Nevada law says only in the gaming areas.

i read an article earlier this year in the la times talking about how some restaurant/bars in LV where putting dividers up to separate them so you could still smoke. it was mentioning some crazy thing like you could order food at the bar and still smoke but the waitress from the restaurant would have to walk the food over to you in the bar in a to-go box or something to that nature.
i sometimes smoke while walking through the malls and in the registration areas and no one has said anything, but i try to be curteous most of the time
