Re: Tipping on Hand Pays

Every time we've had a hand pay there are 2 people, one counting, one watching.  Do you tip both?  If they don't bring anything smaller than a $20 and we don't have a smaller bill, we don't tip.  I think $5 or $10 is adequate for a person you see for a few seconds, regardless of the jackpot amt.  I'd rather give the cocktail waitress a $10 or $20 for the continued great service.

I think in most casinos, at least in my "home" casino Harrahs Cherokee, tips are pooled.  I always tip on a hand pay.  I figure attendants outside the high limit area where I play may not get as many tips from players who are not accustomed to tipping.  Since the dealers rotate, and I know pretty much most of them by name, it all evens out by pooling.  My tips generally are $20 for $1250 - $2000.  $40 for $4000-$8000 and $100 for $10k or $20k.

I don't have a great response to Backsider, cause his attitude is just sad.

You are right the tips are pooled regardless who it is.  Fire Keepers in Michigan pay their dealers $5.00 an hour and all the tips from all tables are pooled.

I frequent the Cannery in LV and have been there maybe thirty times. Im known more easily because of my chair, and no one in the place has more manners than me. I chat with the employees, we have some laughs, and I even let them bother me sometimes when Im playing Other than when they do something that "assists the handicapped", I never tip any of them on handpays and it doesnt change anything about anything.

Save your money and put it where it was meant to be put, in your own pocket. Would you rather have friends, or panhandlers?
I think you missed my point. I am not tipping them in order for them to say "Hi" to me when I visit. They are doing their job, and in most customer service-related jobs, tipping is part of their compensation. I was a bartender in college, and tips were the only way to make ends meet.

I cant relate to what job a person chooses to work or how much they get paid. Im also not big on the entitlement society Obama has been trying to enlarge. To me, people who claim they dont make enough so Joe customer should tip them is weak and not relevant. If they want more then this is the land of opportunity, and we all can do better if we want to.

Tipping handpays, any amount, is stupid. If you're going to give away twenty bucks for three minutes work by a handpay artist, feel free to tip you valet the same, and dont worry about leaving a hundred for the kid at McDonalds.

Well, like it or not, tipping in the service industry is part of the compensation equation. If no one tipped anyone in the casino business, the casino would have to raise the pay scales, or else no one would take those jobs. Raises in pay scales to employees means one of two things - decreased casino profits or reducing VP pay tables. Guess which one they would pick.
This would also be true of the restaurant business. Food would be higher if the restaurants had to pay waiters and bartenders more. The fast food industry can get away with it, since they have entry-level positions, and a high turnover rate. It's just macro economics in a free market society.
As for your comment, "If they want more then this is the land of opportunity, and we all can do better if we want to
", it is not as easy as you think it is. As an example, I have a niece coming out of grad school this fall with a 3.9 GPA. She has been looking for a job in her field, pharmaceutical research, for a year. To date, she has had three interviews, and no job offers.

for most players realize this is  part of doing business a 10 dollar tip on a 1000 royal is ok but with tito less handpays only the w2gs handpays. also those folks fix the machine if the paper jams not giving a payout ticket and no tip is expected or other machine problems. so when we have a burst of good fortune share a little

So now the Sharpies believe in both basic mathematics AND macro economics? You guys will believe anything!

Depends where you play. Here in AZ, in at least one casino there are handpays on progressives over $300. In most, all progressive royals over $1000 are handpays. We tip on all handpays but obviously not that much for a $320 jackpot.
