Well I never thought they would Ban smoking in a casino but they did just that at the Harrahs in New Orleans.

Smoking has been banned in Illinois for years. It's banned in Colorado. Ohio is non-smoking indoors as well (they can have smoking slot areas with outdoor ventilation though). Non-smoking casinos is the greatest thing since sliced bread, imo. Casinos hate it though. Very few casinos voluntarily ban smoking.

Regarding smoking, I sometimes wonder if Bob feels that it is worth being exposed to all that second hand smoke consistently from playing video poker for livelihood purposes.

Unfortunately there is no proven study that completely proves the harm of second hand smoke to a point where more states ban them in more places other than restaurants.

Unfortunately, smoking is ubiquitous in all tribal casinos in Arizona except poker rooms and parts of bingo halls. One reason we limit our play.

Actually, there have been numerous conclusive studies performed by highly credible organizations demonstrating the hazards of second hand cigarette smoke. I would refer you to the federal Centers for Disease Control, the American Cancer Society, and the American Lung Association. Those studies came into play when the New Orleans City Council recently made its controversial decision to ban smoking in all non-residential structures, including the Harrah's Casino. I would only hope that eventually, every commercial and public establishment in the nation bans smoking, or at least provides a separate, independently vented venue for smokers.

My beef with Harrah's NO (other than the short paytables) is no one could seem to make me a decent Manhattan, much less a Sazerac. They had no bitters as it turns out. Good thing Mr. B's Bistro just down Royal St. makes the best Sazerac I had in the Quarter. The only reason smoking is allowed in casinos in my state is because the properties are on reservation land and not subject to that portion of state law. The Fond du Luth in the old Sears building in Duluth, MN is the only public place in the state "off" the rez you can smoke and drink at the same time I believe.

Won $10K in a "closed" poker game - no G statement.
Bet big on the NBA finals - won - no G statement.
Just saying....

The key is for each of us to contact our Congresspersons and let them know the unfairness of taxing the average working person while letting the wealthiest off....

Doug McMillion - WalMart CEO $12,800/hour = $25.6 M/year
just because one is not given a tax statement does not mean one does not owe taxes. the IRS might be interested in that $10k poker and big NBA win. not paying owed taxes sounds like unfairness. anyone who thinks the average CEO or business owner works only 40 hours a week, has no idea about reality. i have no idea what the CEO of walmart should be paid, for running a business that is the country's largest employer, with over 1 million employees and locations around the globe. why not check out the income of George Soros, one the most profilic donators to liberal causes and politicians. in 2013, he personally made $4 BIILION. that is an average of $2m per hour. and, because he is a hedge fund manager, he likely paid a lower tax rate than the walmart CEO.

I didn't read the article but my guess is this has more to do with states other than Nevada. Nevada is I'm not mistaken does not hold out state taxes on hand pays but most other casinos take 4% out of those winnings for the state. I'm thinking the other states who are looking for new revenue see this as a chance to double the revenue they are already taking in.

Caesars AC took all the seating out of its second floor smoking room earlier this year. It's a pathetic move and I'm not even a smoker. The entire floor is non smoking. They want you either at the machines or downstairs for the duration.
