Re: RNGs & Randomness - Food for Thought
The other two sites I post more at have occasional complaints about bad luck, but not nearly as much.
I don't see any harm in complaining. Maybe the other forum's players don't admit they lose? Blaming it on rigged machines is just a way of assigning blame to anyone other than yourself.

this not just about the math. it is about a system designed and administered by the government, where oversight was presumed, where the RNG is used, where millions rely on it's randomness, that was corrupted. it went on for years and involved more than one person, thus disproving the long held arguement that multiple people could not keep a secret. does it mean that every lottery is broken? of course not. as far as the math goes, here is my math....where money and/or power are involved, one can almost guarantee, illicit behavior is nearby.

Here is my take on the question of Randomness/RNG and the casinos... If you have fun playing the machines, THEN PLAY THEM and hope you are the "random" person that wins a jackpot that day. I have played hundreds of thousands of hands of VP and I believe that the machines are intentionally programmed to give you those "ALMOST" hands fairly regularly and it will "Psych" you out when you pay close attention to the flops and "next hands". It happens many, many times to me every time I play! For instance, I'm dealt three aces... I need the ace of clubs... it gives me a 4 of clubs instead. Oh darn, for that split second I thought that black 4 was the ace I needed! Or there's the times I get 3oak or 4 to the royal dealt to me and I hit draw... Oh darn, I didn't get it. Then on the VERY NEXT DEAL, low and behold, there it is the card I needed, in the exact spot where I was hoping to see it one hand earlier... Random?? You can't convince me ... I challenge anyone to sit down and play a few hundred hands and just watch and see how many times these "oh darn" moments happen. I enjoy playing, I know the game is in the casino's control, I love being the "random" guy that hits a jackpot!! Happy playing everyone!!!

Still trying to keep the faith even after two stints of over 500k hands on single line games without Royals. Hit one in early Jan this year and now am again up to 235k hands without one on single line games. Rest of the stuff appears to be about on schedule.

Very accurate assessment. I had a conversation with my casino host the other day who started out as a slot technician for about 15 years. I brought up much the same issue as you are bringing forth here. In so many words he admitted the machines are programmed to keep players thinking that the machine they are on is about to pay off.
In my case, I can't tell you how many times the exact card I needed to complete a royal or the missing card for a four of a kind shows up the first card out of the shoot the next hand. It's uncanny how much this occurs.

However, I think this statement may have some truth to it. I think a game operator could program a machine to "show" a near miss and still be within the regulations if the actual hand was also a miss. I have read that regular slot machines do this on a regular basis. As long as the RNG is random and the actual return is the same as posted on the machine, I think they may get away with this. This could be off the wall thinking, but it's worth talking about. What do others think?

This may explain the relatively common occurrence of missing a royal by one card. My wife and I have a running joke about this. We call it "Missed by One!". It's so funny when another player makes a big deal over this as it's happens with some regularity. If you go by the number of these hands alone, you would think royals are more common than they actually are. If you converted 1 in 47 of these to royals, you would be doing pretty well.
