Re: Bob Dancer on Losing
Thanks for the kind words. I honestly don't know what billryan's personal problem is. If he took the time to read all my posts he would find that I agree with Bob Dancer much more than I disagree. The only area where we disagree strongly is his claim of significant long term profit from the game alone. I believe this is a total fabrication, but you may believe differently. I never said I was a "good" player, whatever that is. I always say I am a recreational player and my "mission" is to have as much fun as possible while controlling my loses. If everyone played cheap, the casinos would shut down quarter machines or at least disable the single coin button. I doubt they make much money on players monopolizing the machines at .25 cents a pull. All that said, I abandoned single coin quarter play late last year. I only talk about it on the forum because the math says most players including me lose less money playing that way. The reason I went to max coins is because I like getting max coin royals and I can afford to pay for them. I have also moved closer to Dancer strategy by not going for DW ace high 2 card royal flush shots and a few other changes. I have yet to see any real difference in that decision. If I'm missing any royals, I won't know will I?My suspicion is the biggest barrier to perfect play is human error. At 69 years old, my eyes are not that good and I get tired easy. I also don't have the patience to play a game I don't like just because the odds are a few hundredths of a percent better. This makes it even more important for me to play smaller. I seriously doubt Bob Dancer has figured out a way to cheat Father Time as we are the same age. All that said, there are no "good" or "bad" video poker players, there are only human beings with different ages, budgets, attitudes, physical limitations and desires. If everyone accepted this, we could have quality discussions on this forum instead of constantly debating the same issues.

Phil stated he didn't care if people said he was a bad player, but went into the predictable hissy fit when I did just that.
He has no problem calling people liars but expects us to believe he is a very successful entrepreneur who simply plays bad strategy because it's fun.
If Phil has one bit of evidence that Dancer is not being honest about his earnings, I haven't seen it.
If you don't want to be called a jealous troll, don't come off as one. It really is that simple.

Not to pick on Phil but there is one other area where he and Bob disagree strongly and that is the "cheap system." Bob has no use for it what so ever, even in limited use.

Mr. Dancer does not stand for anything else but winning. Things blew up when Mr. Dancer did not accept Phil's "cheap system" as a strategy for recreational players to pursue over his. If Mr. Dancer accepted that as a good strategy here, it could severely hurt his credibility.

'things blew up', when dancer decided he wanted to restrict opinions.I kinda agree with this assessment.......but in Bob's defense, I guess he is allowed to vehemently disagree with anyone on this forum over the subject of video poker.....I saw at least some of his fights with Phil as simply being a difference of opinion(s).......but it did also seem at times that Bob wanted to totally stifle phil and his point of view, almost as if Bob felt threatened and that somehow, Phil was costing Bob money with his promotion of his "el cheapo" strategy......Did anyone else get that impression, that Bob felt as if Phil was taking money away from him somehow, someway?????I've never fully accepted the less than max coin approach to Video Poker, in anyway shape or form.....if other people really truly have loads of fun doing it, then good for them! Its not for me personally......I've always wanted more evidence and disclosure from BOB though, to back up all his claims with something more than hearsay or the words (however GOOD those words may be) of other people vouching for him......it always seemed to me to be in Bob's best interest to be as candid and honest and open as possible with respect his "advantage, winning play".....this to me would cultivate and draw in MORE people, which is the purpose of his business, right?

You're not imagining things. I went from total CS acolyte to a fifty percenter. Great cost control system of course. But boy, can it stifle a winning day on a cash cow ATM machine. When it's milking time, squeeze as hard as you can.

I think Bob has been pretty honest by admitting that things today are a lot more difficult in finding and getting even the smallest edge on VP. He routinely needs promotions, drawings etc. to get that edge.I have been playing VP since 1993-my first trip to Las Vegas and I can say that up untill 2006-2007 or so there were advantage plays all over Atlantic City as well.Maybe someone on the board remembers the particulars. All Americans, 10-7 DB, 9/5 Double Jokers, Kings or better Jokers with a progressive for 5 of a kind, plus a full pay natural royal. Was it the recession or the increased knowledge VP players gained from people like Bob and the internet forums on VP or just greed that killed it? Probably all 3. There is no doubt that the casinos in AC had these games and oppurtunities for advantage play while they were making maximum profits. I have always thought that an oppurtunity exists for an AC casino to put a bunch of near 100% games out there and make a lot money. For every one knowledgable VP players there are dozens of players that will still be playing at a 95% level.Or less.
